Gino Shepherd, 17, died instantly when he stepped into the path of the Northern Trains service at Peth Lane, Ryton, Gateshead.
He was found by the emergency services with his headphones still in his ears following the accident last Thursday
Gino's cousin, Charnie Campbell, of Newbiggin Hall, Newcastle, said: "He was walking home and he had his headphones in. He walked on to the public crossing and he just didn't hear the train coming, and it hit him.
"When the police found him he still had his headphones in."

ou know what would have been ironic? If he was listening to Folsom Prison Blues. More like "Hellbound Train."

Yes, that was my first thought.
The same thing did happen 2 months ago when an area boy wore his head phones near an Amtrak crossing.
Teen's train death devastates familyThe family said he was wearing headphones and may not have been able to hear the oncoming train, and simply walked across the tracks at the wrong moment.
Tragic. Prayers for the families.

I've stood next to idling diesel locomotives before and I could feel the thunder within every fiber of my being.
How could this kid not see the train or feel the vibration of a thundering locomotive in his vicinity? 'Tis odd.

"When I was a child, my parents never told me to listen for approaching cars before I crossed a street. They told me to look for approaching cars before I crossed a street. "
Then your parents were wrong:
There is a reason why a train whistle is so loud.
School bus drivers are required to stop at a railroad crossing, look both ways, and OPEN THE DOOR!

Ironically, he was listening to Blackfoot’s version of “Train, Train” at the time.

OLD JOKE: My uncle was killed by a ‘weasel’. He was crossing a railroad track and did not hear the ‘weasel’.
