This is the first time in years, just about since the new early schedule came into effect, that I recall the Sox opening at home. Opening day used to be mid-April and the Sox opened at home more or less every other year, like normal teams. Early April is too cold for baseball in Boston.

Of course, they have a permanent home date at 11:00 AM on Patriot’s Day (April 20, this year).

Yes...last year IIRC they were due to play the Patriots Day game at 10 am—vs the L.A. Angels. I smiled, knowing my friend in southern CA could hear baseball at 7 am his time on the radio. But no, there was a rain delay so it wound up starting at noon after all (either last yr or yr before...)
