Score Educational Centers, a tutoring service, is sponsoring a spelling bee in my town, with sample words above. My son, a first-grader, will be participating. A site with words by grade level is here . I'd be interested to know what spelling curricula Freepers recommend and see links to good lists. There is of course the Scripps Spelling bee, but many of the words used there would be difficult for kids in the early grades.

Amazing that you can remember the word you missed, huh? I missed "skiing" in 3rd grade, and "chrysanthemum*" in 7th grade.

_____
*Yeah, the fix was in . . . too many parents watching, and the school didn't want a 7th grader beating the entire 8th grade class.

Yesterday, Fox and Friends were reporting a new pro_noun_silly_ashun program at an elementary schul!

It seems that properly speaking the F-Word, B_word and all those other @#$%^*** words is part of the curriclum!

I guess this might be a new "swearing in" ceremony for our kiddos!

My Italian Grandma, who came equipped with a wooden spoon, did not believe that taking the Lords Name in vane was proper in any language! Holy Mackrell and Holy smoke was okay and any other utterances were met with a "spoonful of anger to make the medicine go down!"
