Cool!
As a yout I bought one of Steve’s albums, in vinyl. One side was stand up and the other side all banjo. Boy was I mad at the time!
That was GREAT. Thanks for the link.
I will always remember seeing Steve Martin perform at The Cellar Door in Georgetown, D. C. back in the 70s. After the show, he went outside the entrance and played his banjo on the sidewalk while wearing that arrow.
I tipped him a quarter, and he took it. LOL.
Thanks
That’s a *great* story. :)
I thought I was being funny to do that, treating him like a ‘common’ street performer. But he didn’t even skip a beat in taking the quarter, thus stealing all my thunder.
Ouch.
He’s a funny man. I thought the story was wonderful. :)
Wow! Great story! I am SO jealous!
Well, it is fun for him and us. Right now he’s playing with the granddaughter of the guy who sort of invented folk music but I don’t think I’ll say who she is. :-)
But he is still a starving artist is a third story walk up.
He talked about the taking the act on the sidewalk shtick in his book. I saw him New Years Eve in 1974 in Coral Gables and he did exactly that. In his book he talked about taking a cab and circling back and seeing the crowds still on the sidewalk, and once I think he led everyone to some empty pool somewheres.
I went to a Steve Martin concert back in his wild and crazy days. I was in college at the time. I got front row seats because I spent the night in line waiting for tickets to go on sale. The temperature was in the upper 30’s the night I waited in line. After the concert, I got one of his oranges he used to juggle. Took it home and put it in the refrigerator. It eventually went bad.
Cool Beans! I never saw Steve perform in concert. Man it was great when he was on TV all the time. On SNL back when it was funny and other shows. I heard “King Tut” on the radio a few weeks ago, it’s still great. My brother had one of Steve’s first comedy albums back in the day, it was hilarious. One part that I remember, is a bit Steve did about being on an airplane and some guy asks him, “Do you mind if I smoke?” Steve replies “No, do you mind if I fart?” Still funny after 30 years. There were some great comedy songs on that album too.
