Between MMA cage fighting and a series featuring a guy whose brain is fried on God-knows-what, can Rollerball be far behind?
Bill Bennett (yes, a flawed human being himself)m and others warned about the “coursening of the culture” years ago.
We’re there.
(Other than I know the MSM,...)
I never got the whole uproar that Bill Bennett was a hypocrite because he was a heavy gambler. Gambling isn’t a sin, according to his Roman Catholic faith, and he has never pronounced it so. They made it seem like he was gambling huge amounts of money, but from what I can gather:
Suppose he has this night in Vegas:
Bet 10, win 20, have 30
Bet 20, lose 20, have 10
Bet 5, win 10, have 15
Bet 10, win 5, have 20
Bet 10, lose 10, have 10
Bet 10, win 10, have 20
Bet 10, win 20, have 40
Bet 10, lose 10, have 30
Bet 10, lose 10, have 20
Bet 10, lose 10, have 10
Bet 10, win 10, have 20
Bet 10, lose 10, have 10
Bet 10, win 20, have 30
Bet 10, lose 10, have 20
Bet 10, lose 10, have 10
Bet 10, lose 10, walk away.
He spent a good while doing that. He bet $165. He’s out $10 for the evening.
OK, Bill Bennett’s rich. He can afford to spend a lot more. Then suppose he spends 100 nights doing that. The do it 100 times. That’s $1,650,000 “gambled” He’s out $100,000. That’s chump changed for him. Personally, that’s not my idea of a good time. But according to Bill Bennett’s faith, and given his wealth, it’s not immoral.
Now, I think he gambles in Las Vegas, I’d have issues with him financing all those mobsters and porn stars and a sleazy city which meets its budget in part with receipts from prostitution. That’s where I’d take issues with his behavior.
