What's the one thing Las Vegas needs more of? Light, according to Carlos Santana, who figures he's just the guy to bring it during a Sin City residency he'll begin May 27 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.
Santana, the man and the band, will play about three shows a week through 2010 at the Hard Rock's expanded and refurbished concert theater, the Joint, which another classic rocker, Paul McCartney, will inaugurate April 19. "Santana is going to bring a lot of joy, light, peace and happiness into a place that is basically based on illusion," the multiple Grammy-winning guitarist, songwriter and bandleader said Tuesday from his management's offices in San Francisco. "We have to triumph, because we're bringing the opposite of what Las Vegas is built on..."
The Joint, which opened in 1995 and helped make Las Vegas a legitimate destination for rock musicians, is undergoing a $60-million expansion. The former 1,400-seat theater now will house up to 4,000 people. Tickets, priced from $79 to $299, go on sale today for Santana performances through September.

I sure hope Obama puts an income restriction on these guys of say $5k per show..don’t want them making excessive money on the backs of the poor, dontcha know...
Will he be playing his ONE song while he is there?
Which ONE is that?
Obama will require a certain number of tickets are comped to well deserving peoples...
Black Magic Woman? Heavy dope smoker and not that great of a guitarist.
Las Vegas -- out in the middle of the Mojave Desert -- was built on entrepreneurship, visionary enterprise, and creative pull-up-the-boots hard work.
So what exactly is this liberal moron trying to say...?
Then perhaps Vegas is the wrong venue for Senor Santana. Maybe Red Square? How about Tienanmen Square? Havanas Revolution Square, then?
Oh yeah, I forgot. Those venues don't actually pay shopworn old communist bastards to perform like the Hard Rock will. OOPS, sorry. My bad.
Don't worry though. The mindless 20-something drones at the Hard Rock pool will "like totally" dig the Che' shirt. Maybe even a old withered-up, old 60's retread like Carlos can get laid there.
Che Sucks.
I LOVE Santana’s music. Always have, always will. Have no idea of his politics, but I would guess they are pretty well ‘left leaning”, LOL
Same here....Alway’s loved them, especially the video of Soul Sacrifice and that great drummer @ Woodstock....
He is a total lefty. But I do think he has made some very good songs. “Europa” is excellent.
Back in L.A. in 71 I lived in Los Feliz and remember seeing this sexy young woman hanging over a booth at a relatively clandestine restaurant with a group of people. She was none other than Charo and was there with Xavier Cugat et al. You know, the coochie coochie girl. Well she was very very young at the time. I guess Cugat put her under his wing, so to speak. Little did I know that she would turn out to be my favorite guitarist!
Back then I was so into Santana and Brown Sugar’s Rollingstones! Also have to say Joe Cocker is still my all time favorite from the past.
