My fave AFD story:
1974 residents of Sitka, Alaska were terrified at the sight of black smoke coming form the crater of dormant volcano Mount Edgecumbe. Tons of residents could be seen lining the streets terrified at the site. Lucky for them it was a joke played by known prankster Porky Bickar, who had set fire to hundreds of old tires in the crater.
When the plane was sent up to check the status, next to the smoldering tires, they discovered, spray painted on a sheet of plywood, APRIL FOOLS.
