I have coached that age, the kids hardly understand the game. Our league didn't keep score, but the kids and parents did, we knew who was the best and worst teams were. The kids both girls and boys had a good time, and I let everybody play that turned out for the game.
Competition is great it lets the kids loose from time to time, it teaches them that the will always be a winner. One of my children is very competitive, and will often cry when she looses a game of anything. We let her cry. Chances are she will win the next time she plays.
We have a president now that grew up with the "touchy feely" "everybody is a winner!" life, and he is a bully that doesn't like people talking bad about him. It hurts his feelings.
Let the kids have some competition. I think this coach is a bit over the edge, but I think he is more trying to prove a point. I like it and would let my girls play on his team. I would be his assistant any season.
