My dad joined the Navy to become a navy chaplain when I was about 8. We were living in Port Townsend at the time where my dad was the pastor of a small Baptist church. We arrived in Alameda CA about the time of the Oakland riots. Part of the solution was of have the Black Panthers feed them breakfast and bus them to Alameda for school. This was very different from Port Townsend.
We used to shop at the commissary at Alameda. That is, when we weren’t going to Moffat Field.
I like the Bay Area then. I don’t think I would, now.
