It's VERY cultural. And I concur with the "value the women" aspect of that culture. It may be old-fashioned today, but I'm not letting go.

And I'm no longer cursed (though to tell the truth I never was, but I've heard reports...) for holding a door for a woman behind me. That's just how I was raised. Men and women are not the same, never were and likely never will be, and pretenses to the contrary are simply destructive of our institutions.
