I attended a lecture by Key when I was in college. Fascinating. I bought the books later and you're right. Some weird stuff was going on.
I gather you think my post #13 is in error along with the psychology text . . . or you haven’t read it yet???
I was in the advertising profession at the time and we could not put a number to subliminal effects and being able to put a number to a technique is of extreme importance in pitching advertising. Some still use it as more of a habit.
As an example, one of the companies I worked for knew exactly what percentage of sales came form each ad that they placed and they cut out ads that had no action. We used to hold 3 day meetings discussing nothing other than that.
Interesting . . . using same ad with and without such should have given some numbers in terms of sales . . . the key issue! LOL.
Thanks.
Bottom line: Look at Bud ads. Nekkid women sell stuff.
The secret to advertising is identifiying the attribut of the product which is worth more to the potential customer than the cost of the product and make the potential customer look at that attribute. You do that and you are golden.
And nekkid ladies score high in that regard.
My guess is that any improvement in sales from using subliminal advertising would be indistinguishable from statistical noise.
And they won’t pay for ad programs that don’t lift sales beyond the statistical noise level. And they shouldn’t.
