It was a few minutes after noon Wednesday, and Ron Evancho was getting concerned. A Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission truck, loaded with 3,400 trout, was on its way to the Loyalhanna Watershed Association office, set to arrive at 12:15.
Its fish were destined to be stocked in Fourmile Run, a stream that winds its way from near Ligonier to Donegal Lake. The plan was to dump four buckets of trout each holding 20-30 fish into the creek at dozens and dozens of points along the way.
That's a lot of netting fish, scrambling down muddy banks and climbing back again. Yet, under gray skies and with a light drizzle hinting at more serious showers, there were just two trucks idling in the association's parking lot. "I was starting to get a little worried," Evancho said. "When the weather's a little inclement, the turnout goes down, and I thought we might be in trouble."
He need not have feared. By the time the stocking truck arrived, there were at least 10 vehicles pickup trucks, SUVs and cars of every shape and color in the lot, each carrying volunteers willing to help stock the stream. When the stocking truck pulled out, they fell into line behind it, an impromptu caravan that moved like a lethargic snake moving and stopping, moving and stopping, sometimes covering just a few hundred yards between rests over the next four hours.

I use to plant fish. Great fertilizer and did wonders for my shrubs.
happens here in WV, and they do follow the stock truck though those who know say wait a day for them to settle down and then they are easier pickings.
of state employees who know exactly when & where the fish are dumped and pick it clean.
I can’t imagine why anybody bothers going after just-planted fish.
They are easy pickings, no challenge, and they taste like cardboard. I’d rather go fishing at the supermarket. It’s easier, cheaper, and they taste better.
