We are in the Central part of the USA. Friend had spent a great deal of time holding and loving the dog, not knowing what he had. I wonder if she is at risk for coming down with this??

If you look up HP, you’ll find out that a great many Americans have been infected, in some parts of the country 80% or more. For most people the infection is asymptomatic, with on the other end of the spectrum the usual suspects (sick, elderly, immune-compromised) sometimes dying from it. Unless she has unusual symptoms I wouldn’t worry about it.

However, anybody planning to clean up areas with large amounts of bird or bat droppings should take appropriate precautions.
