For example, one buddy of mine who was on prescription stuff for this would drink pickle juice (brine) and start to feel better. Pickle brine is acidic.

That's interesting - my husband says the same thing. In fact, if he has a problem with heartburn, he pours a little salt in his palm & licks it. Says it helps.

Salt drops the pH of saliva down to more acidic. The heartburn is the symptom of a LACK of acid and bile, not too much.

the older I get the more I hear of people drinking pickle juice.....LOL.....that's something I'll do when I can and my husband always thinks I'm crazy....

but I'll even drink a little saurekraut juice and sometimes, even pepprocini juice....LOL

I never get heartburn.....
