Lavette Jones, who lives in the neighborhood, said many people don’t understand what it’s like to live in East Oakland and the amount of violence she deals with.

She sounds like she thinks this violence is something inflicted on the 'hood by outsiders. In actual fact, they are mostly committing this violence on each other.

The 8 men killed by police recently were all innocent victims of profiling and brutality no doubt. (sarcasm)

Just maybe there would be less violence in these communities if residents there would let the police do their job. They should elect mayors for a change who are tough on crime and don’t have to cave in to PC bull.

East Palo Alto (in No. Calif.) has the same environnmnent very similar to Oakland. Half of the population are African Americans and the rest are Latinos, Tongans and Samoans. EPA has a very high crime rate — most of the recent violence has been “black on black.” Most of the fights are a result of gang violence and retaliation.

The weird thing is, East Palo Alto and Palo Also is separated only by a bridge. Palo Alto is one of the most expensive places to live in Northern California.
