Just outside Yuris headquarters is the monument to the firemen who died after the explosion. The monument was erected by the firemen themselves. After the explosion, firemen raced to the plant withihn 2 minutes of hearing the alarm, unknowingly exposing themselves to lethal doses of radiation.

I always count these guys among the heros of the world and I don't buy that they didn't know. I remember seeing some video shot as it was going on and the cameraman was crying because he knew he was a goner. He was saying that he could feel the radiation as a tingling or vibration in his bones. Also you could see the static it created in the video.
