The Rolling Stones only first played Austin in their entire existence a couple of years ago.

Dylan passes through town now and then (I think he even hung out at a Kinky Friedman show).

Neil Young dropped in this year to promote his new movie (with Johnathan Demme) and other things. I don’t know if he gigged this year (he was not officially listed).

SXSW is about generating publicity/exposure. The Who have not played SXSW but Pete Townsend was keynote speaker 2 years ago and played along at a number of different bands’ sets (including Ian McLagan of the Faces/Small Faces).

SXSW is not about tired dried out bands playing oldies. It's about young up and coming acts.
