The president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops on Saturday called on the White House to end immigration raids that ~~split up families~~ reduce cashflow to the church.

There, fixed it.

Yep. I guess the “immigration raids” are bad for the Catholic church’s business revenue.

His understanding of canon law is woefully inadequate.

As countless child sex abuse scandals have rocked the Catholic Church over the last several years, American families have been leaving the church in droves. As American men and women whisk away their children from the potential risk of molestation in the Catholic church, they also take their much needed money. The coffers of U.S. Catholic churches have been running on empty and the church sees the pocketbooks of illegal immigrants as its only hope.

During Pope Benedict XVI’s recent visit to the United States, he gave many speeches and sermons. Among other things, the Pope admonished Americans to adopt a welcoming attitude towards those who break our laws by entering this country illegally. Benedict said: “I want to encourage you and your communities to continue to welcome the immigrants who join your ranks today, to share their joys and hopes, to support them in their sorrows and trials and to help them flourish in their new home.”

It was recently discovered that the Pontifical Commission for Latin America, a Vatican-based group which answers directly to the Pope has made a large donation to help build a shelter for Central Americans on their illegal journey to the United States. The money was given to the Brothers On The Path refuge, located in the Mexican city of Ixtepec.

Between 2005-2007, the number of Central American nationals caught by the Border Patrol entering the U.S. illegally has averaged 11 percent of their total apprehensions. While the majority of the 875,000 caught sneaking across the border annually are Mexicans, those coming from countries such as Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador are adding to the incredible burden placed on our Border Patrol agents.

Along with the usual problems posed by illegal immigration, a particularly violent gang known as MS-13 hails from El Salvador, but now has many Honduran and Guatemalan members as well. In addition to other parts of the country, MS-13 has been gaining a large presence in Northern Virginia, and is responsible for several machete attacks in the area. In 2005, an Alexandria teenager lost four fingers during a savage encounter with MS-13 members and a Fairfax man also became a victim of a MS-13 machete attack.

Machetes are the gang’s favorite weapon, which they often use to kill a fellow member who talks to the police or attempts to leave the gang.

In 2005, Chicago Police Superintendent Philip J. Cline made a chilling observation. Explaining that MS-13 is much more violent than the Italian Mafia ever was, he noted that while the Mafia killed 1,111 people since 1919—street gangs such as MS-13 have killed 1,276 people just since 2000.

In June 2005, Los Angeles Cardinal Roger Mahony wrote an op-ed piece for the Los Angeles Times in which he defended and even encouraged illegal aliens to enter this country. Of course, Mexicans and other Latin Americans are overwhelmingly devout Catholics. Mahony along with the rest of the church’s hierarchy is undoubtedly anxious to tap this potential source of income.

In 2006, Cardinal Mahony directed all priests in his 288 parish archdiocese to simply ignore any federal law which requires anyone working on behalf of the church to inquire into the citizenship of anyone seeking help (The Catholic church offers assistance to illegal aliens applying for various welfare programs). The directive was given by Mahony in response to the immigration bill passed by the U.S. House of Representatives in December 2005, which declared all illegal aliens and mandated the prosecution to anyone who knowingly aided an illegal alien.

For decades, the Catholic Church shielded and protected child-molesting priests. As complaints would come pouring-in from parents threatening to involve the police, the church would simply ship the offending priest off on a sabbatical, eventually pawning them off on another unsuspecting parish where the process would begin again. That practice is nothing more than aiding and abetting known criminals. The enormous toll of lives destroyed by this disgusting and cowardly exercise by the Catholic Church will never be fully known.

The Catholic Church has been forced to pay-out millions to the victims of pedophilic priests. Fed up with the hypocrisy and disregard for the lives of innocent children, many Americans have fled the Church. In the Boston Archdiocese alone, 65 churches have been forced to close their doors due to a sharp decline in parishioners.

Boston was once considered the center of the American Catholic society. Catholic worshippers in that city were shocked to learn of the outrageous behavior displayed by Cardinal Bernard Law and the offending priests he protected for so many years. One priest that Law moved around to several different parishes was Father Paul Shanley. As it turned out, Fr. Shanley was not only a molester, but an advocate for NAMBLA (North American Man-Boy Love Association). While Shanley was eventually convicted of child rape, Cardinal Law was rewarded by Pope John Paul II, who brought him to Rome where he now holds a prominent position within the Vatican.

For many American Catholics, it became obvious that their church would never take seriously the issue of children being victimized by child-raping priests. It also became obvious that the church would never take true responsibility for the role the leaders of the church played in harboring these monsters. It is little wonder that so many now well-informed American Catholics refuse to ever return their children as well as their donations to the church.

The illegal aliens represent exactly what the Catholic Church needs right now...largely uneducated and devoted worshippers with jobs. The illegal aliens will be all-too happy to place their children in Catholic schools (largely funded by Bush administration school vouchers, i.e. the American taxpayer). If Republican presidential nominee McCain ever succeeds in his wish to grant amnesty to all illegal immigrants, they will fill the now-darkened parishes throughout the U.S. Most of these people speak very little English and most lack even an elementary school education, they are much more likely to keep their mouths shut once the priests begin to have their way with their children. The shell game of shifting molesting priests around will begin again and the ignorant invaders will continue to fork-over ten percent of their wages to the church.

The Catholic Church has helped to organize the massive illegal alien rallies seen in recent years around the nation. The March 2006 rally held in Washington, D.C. was sponsored by among others the Archdiocese of Washington’s Office of Justice and Service, Catholic Charities of the Arlington Diocese, and the Catholic Social Justice Lobby Network. Baltimore churches St. Michael and St. Patrick even sent a four bus convoy filled with illegal aliens to the Washington rally.

A high-ranking official with the Diocese of Arlington, Va. named Father Jose Hoyos played to the crowd when he said: “I want to pray for all the representatives and the senators and the president of the United States, because if they were Christians they would not pass this kind of law.”

According to the Catholic Church, it is now somehow un-Christian to protect the sovereignty of one’s own nation.

The aid and encouragement given to illegal aliens has angered many people who still care about preserving the Republic and maintaining it as a nation of laws. Al Garza, executive director of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps recently said: “It’s not only provocative, it’s sinful. What they’re really doing is saying, ‘Look, even though the United States has laws, we’re going to help you break the laws to realize your dream.’ “

In the 1940’s, the Catholic Church helped Nazis escape prosecution to begin new lives in South America. At least from the 1960’s to the present, the church chose to protect child-molesting priests over innocent children. Now, to save itself that same Catholic Church is encouraging an illegal invasion of this country...Is it any wonder that this church has become irrelevant to most Americans?

With respect to the Cardinal:

Please, place a call to Pope Benedict XVI, and ask him to immediately melt down ALL the precious metal staturay and finery, all the goblets and alters and prayer benches and decorations.... Tell him to please sell ALL the vast lands and real estate, all the famous paintings and frescoes, all the priceless relics and artifacts.

Once Pope Benedict XVI, the College of Cardinals and the US Catholic Bishops have completed this task, have them forward the amount, in full, to the US Treasury, with the stipulation that ALL proceeds go to an Endowment Fund used to reimburse the US Taxpayers for all expenses WE incur everytime WE must fund the upkeep, medical care, imprisoning, reimbursement to the victims of their crimes, welfare for their “anchor babies,” government housing, etc... for MANY if not MOST of these lawbreakers.

Until then, Cardinal, SHUT UP.

I agree but only so far. If a Diocese is found to harbor illegal immigrants, they lose their tax free status. Why you ask? They have crossed the division of Church and State and they have entered the realm of politics.

Dear Ms. Pulido: At the time of this writing, I hope that you and your campaign staff have had the opportunity to speak with Lee Roupas, Chairman of the Cook County Republican Central Committee. The Executive Board of the Central Committee charged him having a telephone conference with you to voice concerns about negative messages emanating from either your campaign or your supporters concerning the Cook County Republican Party and certain of its constituent elements.
I initiated the discussion which resulted in that motion being made and passed. Although I have provided your campaign with election law advice when you were circulating petitions (advice, apparently, which proved beneficial as your petitions survived a ballot challenge), have encouraged supporters of yours in my ward to campaign for you, and posted your candidacy as a Republican candidate in the special election on our 32nd Ward Republican Organization website, it has greatly distressed me that certain of your supporters have chosen to claim that the Republican Party in Chicago, including my organization, has “done nothing” to support your candidacy and that that fact is indicative of the “failure” of that leadership.

I am concerned that this message has been encouraged by you. Worse, I note that, in a departure from good campaign practice undertaken by all good Republican candidates, you and your campaign have failed to contact me at any time in order to promote your campaign and to obtain Republican support from my ward.

We have one example of a successful campaign in the 5th Congressional District, and that is the election (with my help) of Mike Flannigan in 1994. You and your campaign have chosen to ignore all of the lessons learned in that successful campaign. I would also like to note that some elements of your campaign have, during the primary, postured your candidacy as one being “anti Republican Party” and an effort to sidestep the regular Republican Party in our area.

This would be consistent with your failure to reach out to me during the primary (other than the one occasion on which your staffer needed free election law advice, noted above). My view is that your have not undertaken the effort to seriously educate yourself on the makeup of our local Party organizations or to develop a strategy of working constructively with the local Party. If the suspicion that you wished to run as an “anti-Party” candidate is correct, then it puzzles me that you so assiduously sought the Republican Party nomination as opposed to running as an independent.

The foregoing is bad enough, but I had decided in the interests of promoting the goals of our Party to refrain from circulating the foregoing information in order to preserve some chance (because there is always some chance) that you could win in this special election. However, your most recent public statements require that I send this message and to preface it with the foregoing statement. To compound the problems created by your campaign that I note above, you made the following public statement which was widely publicized in the local media, notably ABC 7 TV: “Cardinal George is responsible for every illegal immigrant who dies while crossing the border coming over here because he is luring them.”
The foregoing statement is problematic in the extreme and reproachable on one significant point. Your statement was made in response to Cardinal George’s call for an end to deportations — the Cardinal’s demand neither infers nor logically suggests that he encourages illegal entry into the United States. Since one cannot infer an invitation to enter the country illegally from his remarks, your accusation that he is “responsible” for all deaths of illegals making such attempts, which is tantamount to accusing him of public heedlessness on the issue of human life if not manslaughter, is completely lacking in support or justification.

That being the case, you have accused the highest official of the Catholic Church in Chicago of recklessly inhumane behavior for no good reason. Your statement, accordingly, is reprehensible, reckless, and offensive. No good candidate for public office in our country can make such statements and still be considered a good candidate. I am a committed Roman Catholic within the Archdiocese of Chicago, so your statement has a particular sting for me, as I believe it will for all Chicago Catholics.

(I am informed, but do not know, that you yourself are Catholic.) Equally important is the fact that the congressional district within which you run has a substantial Catholic population (an informed Republican recently told me that 40% of the district is Catholic, making it the most Catholic district in the country - although I do not know if that is correct, there is no question that it is significantly Catholic). Therefore, your statement also has the effect of seriously hurting your campaign.

Regardless of the demographics involved, it is impolitic and uncouth in the extreme to make such an outrageous groundless accusation about a major religious figure. Although you do not know me personally, I have had the opportunity to hear you make statements in the Townhall Conservative meetings in Chicago on occasion over the past year and before you ran for this office. On those occasions, your rhetoric has been astringent, accusatory, and shrill.

Because your reprehensible comment about the Cardinal is in keeping with your rhetorical posture as I perceive it, I do not have high hopes that you will consider my suggestion in this message with any seriousness. But in the interests of preserving the dignity of my Party, in which I serve as a leader, I wish to present you with the following suggestion.

I recommend that you issue an immediate, public apology, with a copy sent to the Cardinal himself, indicating that you profusely apologize for the unwarranted accusation that you made and that you retract it in full. This apology should also be posted on your campaign website. If you do nothing to correct or ameliorate the damage caused by your statement, then I will publicly withdraw my endorsement of you as a candidate for the United States Congress and denounce your statement. Given the circumstances in which you made your statement, it was wrong for a Republican Party candidate to make it. Given that the statement was unreasonable, uncouth, and offensive, its public utterance demonstrated the unsuitability of its speaker for a public leadership position of any type.

Hence my position in the event you fail to undertake the appropriate apology and correction. In closing, I wish to point out that I most strongly disagree with the Cardinal’s demand that the government cease the deportation of illegal immigrants. Moreover, I agree that illegal entry into this country is a serious issue and that illegal “immigration” should be vigorously opposed and suppressed by all reasonable means.
However, the fact that I and many other Republicans believe that the Cardinal is wrong does not justify an accusation that he supports and encourages deadly behaviour. Please note that I have copied this message to other Republican leaders who have an interest in your campaign, including Tom Roeser, who I bcc’d in respect for his privacy. Because of the seriousness of the problem that you have created, I elected to share this with them. I will not circulate this any further, and it will not be further circulated if the corrective measures are undertaken.

There is still a chance that the damage will be undone and that we can defeat the Democrats in this race. Of course, I take no responsibility for the impact of my message should you or one of your supporters choose to circulate this email message, or, as is not unknown to happen, select passages contained therein. If the “info” address to which I direct this email is not sufficient to reach you, I ask Mr. Hoeffling to forward this to you accordingly. Isn’t the Church supposed to win souls, not steal them from Mexico?

The thing that really gripes my @$$ about this “breaking up families” meme is that if the families want to stay together, there is no law preventing the rest of the family going back to Mexico if they want to stay together.

I say “bravo” for encouraging such a compassionate attitude towards immigrants. As a matter of fact, we should take the Church at her leaders’ word and follow their example by conforming our immigration laws to those of the Vatican.
