RE “and I believe that the folks on my ping list, as well as many Freepers, hold similar sentiments to varying degrees.

I agree with you 100%. During the election McCain tried to run as a reformer and his liberal and independent buddies abandoned him when his utility for stabbing republicans in the back publicly was gone for a while. So he made believe he was a conservative for a litlle while but appeared so phony that he had little chance of winning the election. He used Palin as a prop to stir Christan conservative emotions. His TARP1 bailout position, or lack of, showed how worthless and cowardly he was. I will say McCain has not hurt us this year yet and has been a pain to Obama so far. But given the chance, he would stab us again in a minute. As President he would have been nightmare to us republicans splitting party apart again.

McCain’s positions on global warming and illegal immigration put him at the bottom of my list from day one. His record of crossing the aisle didn’t help much, either. His support for the bailout clinched his defeat, IMO.

If Republicans want to win, I suggest the RNC quit propping up candidates like McCain, Schwarzenegger, and Rudy (all of whom they tried to push ever since the 2004 convention) whose beliefs more closely aligh with the Dem platform. If I wanted to vote for a liberal, I’d be a Democrat.
