Why don’t we ban illicit drugs to stop the Mexican drug cartels. I mean that’s gotta work....right?

Slow down. You're going too fast for Wesley. I lived in Mexico for seven yrars. The weapon of choice for the cartels is the AK47. They don't get them from the US.

This is a move by the narcos to disarm the US so they can take over here just like they have taken over down there. The cartels have run Mexico since 1987 that I know of.

Why would Wesley Clarke want to disarm Americans, is he a Marxist mole too like Barky? I think Whore-aldo is just one of the many useful idiots unknowingly doing the Marxist bidding as many liberals are doing with their simplistic feel good ideology.

Why come here and buy a semi-auto for more than a fully capable select-fire weapon would cost them elsewhere, anyway?

Clark needs to clear that sight glass in his belly button he uses to see.

Approximately 50 million AKs in several different versions have been manufactured in many different countries since it was adopted as the main battle rifle of the Soviet Red army soon after WWII. The Russians and the former USSR republics adopted a newly designed rifle as their battle rifle several years ago, and a large portion of now obsolescent 7.62x39mm AK47 and 5.45x39mm AK74 rifles are currently in illegal circulation throughout the 3rd world. The black market going price in Africa for a well used but serviceable AK-47 is around $5O to $60 US, and they're available to anyone who can pay the price. I doubt that the Mexican drug runners buy their AKs in Africa, but I imagine the Latin American black market price is not a great deal higher than the African price.

A US ban on cosmetically similar semiauto copies of full auto "assault weapons" for the alleged purpose of preventing Mexican drug gangs from acquiring the actual full auto weapons will be equally as successful as outlawing marijuana and cocaine has been. Of course that's not the real reason the antis want to ban them, they want to ban all firearms and those are the most vulnerable because they can be easily misrepresented as full auto machine guns to the average American voter who knows very little about the difference between military firearms and military styled firearms. The Democratic Congress has the votes to ban anything that they and Obamassiah don't want us to have, and it's up to us to let them know that the millions of American voters who believe in and support the constitutional right to keep and bear arms can and will make them pay at the ballot box for any unconstitutional restrictions they put on that right.
