There is no "company" behind this project - it is managed, maintained, developed and supported by a volunteer group and by the users themselves.

I wish it weren’t the case, but even when free, Linux can’t get above 3% market share.
fyi
Why does that bother you?
See link at post #2 for a downloadable Ubuntu...32 bit with software for multimedia installed...works with my nvidia 7600 Video card.
Yes, but Linux is a very good OS.
I have used it for over 10 years, and if I could find a replacement for 2 apps. (scriptable Publishing Program, and CAD Program) I would never run Windows again.
That said, it is not a good substitute for Windows for everyone.
Not a Gnome fan (the way-too-unready 1.0 release turned me off bigtime) — is there a KDE equivalent?

I did install KDE on Fedora 10 on my old Aspire 3003 and wasn't too impressed (but it hasn't nearly enough RAM and also needs a better graphics card driver).
But you can add the KDE package to whatever you are running if that's what you like.
But a decade or more of being a KDE user has me accustomed to its ways. (Not that I liked it at first, it felt too "rigid," but I adapted to its ways...)
Yes Ubuntu puts out Kubuntu...which is KDE...
So what are you running...KDE 4?
3.5.10

Kubuntu 8.04.2 Released Submitted on Sat, 2009-02-21
The Kubuntu team is proud to announce the release of Kubuntu 8.04.2, the
second and final maintenance update to Kubuntu's 8.04 release. This release
includes updated desktop, and alternate installation CDs for the i386 and
amd64 architectures. This update is provided in recognition that the current
Kubuntu release (8.10) with its cutting edge KDE 4 desktop is not yet
appropriate for all users.
In all, over 200 updates have been integrated, and updated installation
media has been provided so that fewer updates will need to be downloaded
after installation. These include security updates, and corrections for
other high-impact bugs, with a focus on maintaining stability and
compatibility with Kubuntu 8.04.
Yah. I’m running 8.04. Don’t want to fall over the bleeding edge, ya know.
I’m running on old hardware so I’m actually thinking of going to Xubuntu for a little more responsiveness.

KDE was updated to the current KDE3 release, KDE 3.5.10
Okay, I'll not upgrade.
