Looking for another Earth
Corpus Cristie Times ^ | 03/13/09

The space telescope Kepler blasted into orbit last Friday with a simple mission: Find another Earth. Or, in the best of all possible worlds, so to speak, a lot more Earths.

Since 1995, when the first extra-solar planet was discovered, after centuries of searching and an uneasy sense that there might not be any, astronomers have discovered more than 300 planets beyond our solar system.

The problem is that they were Jupiter-like gas giants orbiting rapidly and close to their stars. Now, with the aid of Kepler, astronomers hope to find rocky, smaller planets orbiting their stars in the "Goldilocks Zone," far enough from the star so it's not too hot yet close enough that it's not too cold to be habitable. Just like Earth, in fact.

I still think we should send prominent Liberals on a mission of peace. It would get them off the planet and make them somebody else’s problem.

Douglas Adams wrote about such a plan. It was Brilliant.

If we accept an “infinite” universe, then there are an infinite number of planets just like ours. Finding one in the vastness is another matter.

But any likely prospects will be singled out for further study by the James Webb space telescope, successor to the Hubble, when it is launched in 2013.

Webb...Hubble. : )

No reason the liberals should have all the fun. We conservatives should go and leave the liberals here to “perfect” things.

We can say “Hi” to any intelligent life and eat anything that isn’t intelligent.

Liberals already live on another planet, one with Plastic Reality where the only thing that counts is good intentions, and the law of unintended consequences has been revoked. It is a very sad place, full of self loathing and self denial.

Better just to eat both.
