Stay away from HP! Their design and quality have really taken a nosedive in the last 5-10 years. This from a guy who 15 years ago wouldn’t consider a printer from anyone BUT HP. I was pushing for my department to purchase a laser printer, and recommending an HP, and my boss asks “Does Epson make laser printers?”, and my response was something like “Probably...I have no idea...who cares?”
Do NOT buy an inkjet.
Old-school 300 dpi Bump.
I bought a wireless Brother laserjet and it works really well. I liked the idea that it was wireless so I didn’t have to worry about cables. It just shows up on every machine as a printer.
Buy HP. My company needs the money or they’ll cut our salaries. Again.
I bought a Xerox color laser printer with the network option. The reason I select it was that the price of the consumables (toner) is very low compared to other similarly priced laser printers.
I looked at a brand that was much cheaper, but the set of toner replacement was more expensive than the printer!
So check the price of the toner very carefully.
I'm still using my HP Laserjet 6L.
Problem is, you don't have networking built into those old printers - need to buy a print server.
I bought a Brother monocrome laser printer ?2170? as well. It’s great and boy does the ink last a lot longer. Beats pumping lots of color cartridge $$$ into the latest el cheapo they give you for 25 bucks with your latest computer.
That way, when it all goes to shits, she’s the one to blame. Though one must not verbalize that.
Save a few bucks on the machine you want, lose many nights reloading drivers while your wifey stands over you p!ssed that the puppy pictures won’t print or scan. No thanks.
I’ve been unhappy with all new printers for the last 2 years or so. I won’t go into my reasons, but, quality of build and excessive consumable usage figure into it.
That said, I will give 4 out 5 stars to Brother products. Just don’t buy based on price (relative to the others), the cheaper models give exactly what you pay, and not a single ounce more.
I’ve had nothing but HP printers for ten years. They are, to me, the best. I have a C5180 that I’ve had for over a year. It prints darn near photo quality.
I've sent back cameras that I didn't like. No problems.
For anyone who might be interested I ended up buying a Brother Color Laser Printer HL-4040CN. I paid $234 at an Office Depot that was being closed. I’m impressed so far. It appears to be very well built. I can’t believe it weighs 64 pounds.
