Where in the Bible does it say our forgiveness toward others depends on someone else’s repentance? We are to forgive 70X7, not on the precondition someone say they’re sorry. I will leave the rest between her and God. God is the one who must be answered to, not us. He knows our hearts.
So you’d forgive me if I broke into your house and made off with your property?
You certainly wouldn’t do anything as vulgar as expect me to make restitution if I were caught, right?
I’ll explain:
I can forgive, but it doesn’t remove the stain of sin from the person I have forgiven if they don’t repent.
I can forgive, but that doesn’t remove the requirements of justice that sinners make restitution for the temporal effects of their sin—thieves DO have to return their stolen loot, and moral vandals DO have to publicly acknowledge the damage and moral invalidity of their actions and statements.
