WOW!

A ROMNEY SUPPORTER BASHING PALIN!?!?

How shocking and unexpected...

I bet I’ll never see that again...

“Some are pleasant and sane, some should aspire to be.”

Which is funny, because the primary initial response to my arguments have been insults loaded on top of insults.

But it’s just one more, passive-aggressive snark on the pile for those who don’t want to come to grips with how social norms get maintained if no one is going to say avoidable single parenthood is wrong.

The upper class suffers through single parenthood by its derogation of the importance of fatherhood as long as someone is able to pay the bills. Its not o.k., just because we don’t get stuck with the bills.

Sure, bring on more insults, those’ll be persuasive.

O.k.

So be clear: is pre-marital sex objectively wrong? Is raising a child without a committed married father if it can be avoided wrong?

It’s interesting to see how many conservatives will smear anyone asking the questions.

“It wasn’t common sense 50 yrs ago. And it isn’t common sense now.”

The illegitimacy rate in 1960 was under 10 percent. It is now 38 percent overall.

Something that everyone understood then has been forgotten. It’s incorrect or merely dishonest to say that mores have not changed, and it’s also incorrect or dishonest to say this change has not resulted in significantly higher rates of child abuse, dysfunction and neglect.

So I DO have a problem with single parenthood, even when the parent isn’t a welfare queen, because the social consequences of the optionalisation of the married, two-parent family model, even if it were confined only to the upper classes who can afford to pay, are real and general.

“The bible respects the dignity of the individual in living life to that moral path. We should respect it, too. Treat others as you would have yourself be treated. We all have regrettable moments, mistaken choices, skeletons in our closets.”

Thank you for that. I think most everyone knows it is best for a child to have both its mother and father together. The laws and precepts God gave in His Word are for our benefit, to make our live better and easier, not just because He felt like it. When we make choices contrary, there will likely be consequences. That doesn’t mean we’re beyond hope or God won’t lead us on a road to restoration. Every single one of us has fallen short. If each of us put as much effort into having the heart of God, instead of pointing out a teenager’s errors, we’d be much better off. Bristol has acknowledged the circumstances are not optimal, and is trying to make the best out of her current situation. The Bible admonishes us to pull the plank out of our own eye before looking at the splinter in our brothers’ eye. As Christians, the Bible tells us if we do not love, we have nothing. We can give away our life and give all our money to the poor, but that does not matter if we don’t have love.

What Bristol Palin has not acknowledged is that having children outside of the bonds of a committed marriage is wrong because children have a right to committed and married fathers and mothers.

Those who point this out, so far, have been met with insult and abuse rather than anything approaching Christian charity, so please forgive me if I don’t snap to attention at the latest invocation of “judge not.”

If we can’t agree that wrong is wrong, we can’t enforce laws against murder.

Sure...Back then the couple was pretty much forced to get married...They weren't in love...They often ended up in divorce...They had animosity against the kid...

In a year or two, this Palin girl will meet and fall in love with some guy and will get married...The kid will be fine...

If you guys are so worried about the kids, why don't you concentrate on the kids in orphanages and foster homes, the ones who have nobody...Quit trying to steal someone else's kids...

And if she doesn’t “meet someone...?”

The divorce rate in 1960 was also tiny compared to what it is today—people generally behaved sexually in a more moral way back then, hard as that may be to wrap our minds around today.

I can both be concerned about foster children AND point out that the way most of them get there is by precisely the sort of thoughtlessness, self-absorbtion and indifference to the importance of marriage by their parents which Bristol has demonstrated to date.

But thanks for your concern about my resources, even if it did just look like an attempt to avoid the issue being discussed.

What Bristol Palin has not acknowledged is that she likely COULD give Tripp a committed and married mother and father, just not her, but that she has decided that, because she loves the baby, the marriage and committed father parts are really optional.

She said she wishes she had her baby ten years later. I inferred in that she meant married as well, although I can’t read her mind. I’m not saying she’s not wrong or hasn’t made a mistake. Her mistake is known by people around the world, and she’s been ridiculed for it. I don’t feel the need to pile on and rub salt in her wound. Will I advise my daughter against this behavior? Absolutely. Bristol’s life and that of her child will likely be made more difficult as a result of her actions. That doesn’t mean she must forever wear a scarlet letter or that God can’t restore. If we don’t forgive others, God says he will not forgive us. Condone and promote, no. Love and forgive, yes.

Who cares? It is none of our business.

I disagree, unwed mothers should be our business...especially when they ask for tax dollars for welfare, their kids turn to crime, create broken homes etc. Their being unwed affects us all immensely

This "non of our business" attitude is what has turned/ing our country into a counter culture hell hole.

This "non or our business" is a hippie attitude. Remember the line "Do Your own thing"?

If people would condemn these bad actions more, less people would become unwed mothers&fathers/do drugs/live together/flaunt their gayness and other pervsersions in public, on and on.

> Blood is blood.

> Would you be able to know that a part of you is out in the world with strangers instead of family?

> Not me.

We all do what we can, but it is the increased sense of entitlement of teenagers (Juno, etc is a symptom) who keep their babies that create 5 year or indefinite waits for loving adoptive parents.

This has spiked a huge rise is the use of IVF to procreate, resulting in a lot of discarded human life (embryos).

And Jesus weeps.

As for Bristol, I think if she were any other politician’s daughter — say, McCain’s, or Pelosi’s — we’d ALL be pretty vocal about how this was a Bad Idea, a really horrible example to set, and probably make some comments about how it reveals the moral underpinnings of the family.

We do know, as conservatives, that single teen motherhood (barring rare exceptions) is a bad idea for society. Heck, even liberals get steamed up about that crazy Octomom. Bristol is certainly free to make the decision to keep the baby as an unmarried teenager. But you have to admit it is a bad example to set, and since it is out there and public will only reinforce wrongheaded teen girls to remain promiscuous, have babies, and keep them in a situation that is truly bad for their babies.

And that is sad for America.

I come from a faith tradition which holds that forgiveness holds no force without repentance. I’ve never heard Bristol regret her actions or suggest she was wrong; I’ve only heard that she wished it had happened later.

Every time Bristol has spoken I have listened for any hint of acknowledgement that marriage before parenthood is the appropriate, reasonable and morally corret sequence. Every time Bristol speaks, I DON’T hear that. What I DO hear is that abstinence just isn’t realistic.

I DO object to that sort of moral vandalism, even when it’s dressed up in what has, somehow, become the morally unquestionable virtue of single motherhood.

Ah yes; the understanding nonjudmentalism of our modern morality.

Thanks for sharing that; I feel our social fabric fraying just a little more under the gentle caress of your nonjudmentalism.

Where in the Bible does it say our forgiveness toward others depends on someone else’s repentance? We are to forgive 70X7, not on the precondition someone say they’re sorry. I will leave the rest between her and God. God is the one who must be answered to, not us. He knows our hearts.

Here’s Fox’s report on the breakup:

Levi announced it to AP; it’s official.

So you’d forgive me if I broke into your house and made off with your property?

You certainly wouldn’t do anything as vulgar as expect me to make restitution if I were caught, right?
