Report: Bristol Palin and Fiancé Split
TODAY ^ | 03.11.09 | STAFF

The pair, parents to 2-month-old son Tripp, broke up 'a few weeks ago'

Bristol Palin and her fiancé Levi Johnston have broken up, two sources tell PEOPLE.

The split happened "a few weeks ago," according to a source close to the couple, but it's unclear what precipitated it. "It was a mutual thing," adds the source.

"It kind of just happened," says the source, referring to the split. "I thought they would stick it out. But I think they can work together to raise Tripp."

Despite the breakup, Levi still sees the couple's son. Levi's dad, Keith Johnston, told PEOPLE recently that his son is a devoted and "proud father."

Bristol, meanwhile, is attending Wasilla High, taking a class to supplement course work she is completing at home. She also is considering enrolling in college next fall and studying nursing.

“If a girl is striving to be an unmarried mother, we as a society have failed her.”

With Bristol, it’s even worse. She’s says she’s going to become an advocate for single mothers—it sounds as though she’s planning to crusade to try to RAISE the costs to society of single parenthood, and lower the social stigma imposed on mothers who elect to go it alone without committed fathers—committed in the traditional sense of, well, marriage.

I see I’m not in fact the only one who understands how screwed up Bristol Palin is about what she’s done and plans to do, but even if I were I would still stand up and boo her self-absorbtion at every opportunity.

Right, you were carefull to send me messages
addressed to me, that were not for me.
Neither direct, nor frankly, honest.

>>I am telling you to get involved BEFORE they become mothers. And, imagine the positive impact you could have fostering a pregnant teen mom.<<

To what?
Be called bitter like on this thread?
Made out to be unfeeling and uncaring, basically told I am a nasty scary person who people are embarrassed by?

I get enough of that from the people outside of the local abortion clinic. But I’m with my friends the sidewalk councilors. We have a common mission.

Of course preborn babies are babies. I’m opposed to abortion? What the heck does that have to do with this?

Fine then. Continuing being angry about a situation you can’t control and won’t become personally involved in to even try. As I’ve said before, don’t cry about a problem if you don’t have a solution. Good day.

Actually it’s only been in the past couple of generations where each generation ‘needed’ their own home. My former boss (age 62) grew up in a home where her grandparents lived in the same home all of her growing up. My father’s grandmother lived with them until she died at age 92 (in 1972). A friend also aged 62, shares a house with her daughter, son in law and their 2 kids. She still works, has her independent life, helps out *somewhat* (but is not a live in sitter or maid) and they are all the happier and richer for it.

In none of these cases is it grandparents doing all the work but rather several generations living together and their lives being enriched by closeness to grandparents, grandkids and inlaws.

I have a solution. It just isn’t your solution.
Unwed teen mothers give their babies up for adoption.

But no one like that one.

Her solution was offered in, I believe, her first post—adoption.

You are once again, lying. She said she’s going to be an advocate abstinence and waiting, NOT single parenthood. Good grief, man. You are spreading hysterical lies.

“Actually, it did a lot for me.
It made me realize WHY we have the teen pregnancy rates we do.”

Really? I haven’t seen anything in any of your posts that indicated that....I must have missed it.

But in the end, she would still be my daughter and I would not permit her and her irresponsible decisions to become a burden to society if I could prevent it.

Burden to society?

Ms. Palin is not a burden on society; if that is your analogy to "if you had a daughter".

Sometimes crappy things happen in all families--you deal with it the best you can. No one is immune, no matter how good a parent they think they are.

Sometimes great (blessed) things overshadow those crappy things.

We will only continue to agree to disagree. I am fine with that.

Now really am off to go read a book.

Which, again, isn't happening. And what is she doing personally to bring about this change? Standing in front of an abortion clinic? Why not get personally involved with kids BEfORE they even get that far. Sheesh.

Answer my question.

So there is only ONE solution then? Good grief, I can not help you if you don’t try here. Again, seems to me you’d rather them become breeders and give kids to those who want to adopt rather than having an affect on them before they have sex. After all, if they don’t have sex, there won’t be any babies for you to adopt. And that just isn’t fair. *rolls eyes*

Oh, and, BTW, you contradicted your own solution with your answer to my question about if this was your daughter.

My 15-year-old daughter had a son Jan 20th. She became pregnant her first time and while the “father” ran from her responsiblities, my daughter accepted them, and the consequences, of which there were many. She loves that boy like no one else. She nurses him, sings to him and takes top notch care of him. She has the support of her parents, her brother and her sister. That baby has so much love. My daughter did consider adoption but chose to keep him as they will forever have a deep and loving bond.

I was adopted and my adoptive mother abused me for years until she abandoned me completely. I would have rather been raised by a loving single parent than go through that heartache.

My daughter and her baby will be just fine. They have each other and one day my daughter will fall in love and a great man will accept her son as his own. That’s what love is...

You are being pretty presumptuous about me. How do you know what I do?

I could explain how I am involved with K4J and the Youth Club but I really don’t have to explain myself to you.
