The pair, parents to 2-month-old son Tripp, broke up 'a few weeks ago'
Bristol Palin and her fiancé Levi Johnston have broken up, two sources tell PEOPLE.
The split happened "a few weeks ago," according to a source close to the couple, but it's unclear what precipitated it. "It was a mutual thing," adds the source.
"It kind of just happened," says the source, referring to the split. "I thought they would stick it out. But I think they can work together to raise Tripp."
Despite the breakup, Levi still sees the couple's son. Levi's dad, Keith Johnston, told PEOPLE recently that his son is a devoted and "proud father."
Bristol, meanwhile, is attending Wasilla High, taking a class to supplement course work she is completing at home. She also is considering enrolling in college next fall and studying nursing.

No, I’m saying that the best thing for the child of a teen mother who is not marrying the father, in the best interest of the child is to give the baby to a loving family that wants to adopt.
If looking at the statistics of children being raised by teen mothers and being realistic about it is bitter, then I’m bitter.

Yeah, we all know what's best for us when we're teenagers. Of course teens can make the best choices for their offspring, too! That's why their lives turn out so great after they have babies out of wedlock.
There is no guarantee that a baby raised by two parents is going to turn out any better than one raised by a committed single parent.
To imply otherwise is a slap in the face to single parents out there and it sickens me.

However, after being in the situation myself from the mom point of view, I see it differently.
Had I given my son away to a “complete family” my son would have missed out on knowing his wonderful stepdad and brother who loves his big brother more than life itself!
If this rumor is true than maybe Bristol chose to break it off for the best interest of her child. Who knows, but the parent who truly loves their child makes good choices after making bad. I ought to know. I grew up quite quick when I had a child out of wedlock. I look back and am happy with my decisions.

Two teenagers made a mistake and got pregnant. Why compound the mistake by marrying at 16 or whatever they are?
We need to get rid of the idea that getting married just because of an accidental pregnancy is “the right thing to do.” Often just leads to more misery for everyone involved.

Bristol has already demonstrated that she’s an immature short-sighted child.
Why would we privilege her judgment against the traditional norm in favour of married committed parents?
What I did cheer was the fact that they didn't get an abortion, which was a very easy decision to make because of the spotlight. The baby has a chance. I ALWAYS cheer life.
Right now in this realistic environment almost 40 years after the infamous Roe v Wade and Doe v Bolton decisions, abortion is legal, and encouraged. It is "convienent." My first goal is to reduce those first. It starts there
What does that have to do with this situation? This baby will not live “in poverty”. Taxpayers won’t pay for this child. This child will be loved and nurtured, and will no doubt have a loving father in due time. It just really is none of your business.

I agree with you. Children always yearn for their mothers when deprived of them. Witness the hundreds of thousand of adoptees, now adults, doing exhaustive searches for their birth mothers.
My sister had a child when she was a teen out of wedlock and made great decisions for him. He is a happy teenager now living with his mom, stepdad , and sister.

I don’t think that anyone is suggesting that the govt forcibly take the children of ‘unfit’ parents. That is a strawman.
But as conservatives living in a liberal dominated culture, we have to be vocal about our values even though we don’t want the govt to enforce those values. If we don’t speak out then we’ll end up with a lot of unhappy kids that end up on welfare.
