Don’t know who the “walks in beauty” is on the right, but I’m fairly sure that it’s Bonnie Prince Charles on the left.
You said — “If you want to live 2000 years ago in your own mind, go to it honey, but youre not going to convince gypsy girls (or trashy American girls for that matter) to not sell themselves to the highest bidder by throwing bible verses at them and watching their eyes glass over and see them run away from you laughing their heads off.”
I’m not the one who is living 2,000 years ago in another culture. It’s fully in the present day that we are given the comparison of Jesus as paying the Bride-price for us, as Christians. That’s today. It’s going to remain true forever, no matter what culture you or I live in.
And I posted here on this to point out that paying a bride price is not an immoral action, in and of itself, because that was the very method of marrying someone that is used as an example in the Bible to us, in connection to our salvation.
And further, “dating” is not a “moral action” in and of itself. It’s a “nothing” in terms of morals and, in addition, it has no basis in the Bible, which gives us guidelines for our living. There is nothing there, in the Bible, that makes “dating” some kind of sanctified action, in order to produce God-blessed marriages.
You could engage in paying a “bride-price” if you wished and have a God-blessed marriage, too. And, if you were dating (but dating in a proper manner, with conduct approved of by the Bible, of course...), that could result in a God-blessed marriage. And then again, you could never date and just see someone one time and get married and that could result in a God-blessed marriage.
That was the point of the post, and not what century you wanted to live in.

In terms of what I want to convince those girls to do, I would say that is the responsibility of their parents. I would hope that they are looking out for their own daughter’s best interests. And, in this particular case, where the parents are actually there, it’s sort of obvious that their parents are *involved* in their daughters actions, and it’s apparently a long-time tradition with these people. Since their parents are involved (and I see a comment where it was said that this was a way to introduce their daughters to someone who might be interested in them) — it’s something that is carefully guarded by their parents. This indicates to me that someone does not bid on a girl as in an “auction” (LOL...), but rather, they are going to “see them” later on, under the supervision of the girl’s parents.
It looked like, to me..., that the mothers were only a few feet away from their daughters... LOL... No mother is going to let anything happen to their daughters, and they’re right there to make sure... :-)
I would guess that whomever did “pursue” a particular girl would come under the scrutiny of the parents, in the process. And that wouldn’t be such a bad thing.
I can’t complain about what their traditions are, from what I can see here. Perhaps there is something wrong with the process that I don’t know about, but I haven’t heard about it yet.
Hitler rounded up Gypsies for extermination along with other groups he deemed undesirable.
Head to the Gypsy Cemetary in Linden, NJ on Route One any weekend. Tie up traffic all the way up to the Bronx...
OMG... check out the pics on this thread! I think I’ve seen it all now... :-O
I could see marrying one for her gold teeth and pickpocketing skills, dude!
Hey, I think she was on my commuter van yesterday!
LOL!
