Why not just set your firewall to block the Google Updater from loading unless it asks you to.That way you have the control over it.

Google Earth 5 isn’t important enough to me to worry about it that much. It looks like the updater is welded to the program.

Because if he does that the program will probably lock up. Better to remove it entirely.
