This isn’t the right way to go about things. They’ll only hurt the OSS movement.

We'll see, other governments around the world such as China, Russia, Cuba etc are already mandating open source. Do you really think it's hurting open source adoption in those places where it's being mandated by law?

It’s hard to say. Those places aren’t “the land of the free, home of the brave” where people have a natural tendency to buck the system.

Not that those people don’t exist in russia, china, cuba, and more. But they’re spoonfed a lot more propaganda on a daily basis than we are, and they’re also more dependent upon their governments too.

It may not make a difference. Those people are all so poor, they’re only going to steal windows or use linux anyways. Either way, there’s no benefit for the US economically.

From a purist standpoint, sure. Government mandates hurt any cause.
