None of these 1st generation Americans ever gave any thought about what country their parents had come from. They were Americans fighting Hitler, Mussolini and the Emperor of Japan. They were defending the United States of America as one people.A great story from WWII:
A young Nisei (2nd generation Japanese) volunteers for the army. The skeptical recruiting sergeant asks "Are you willing to fight your own people?". The kid's eyes get as big as saucers, "Geez, are we going to have another Civil War?"
