WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. – Robert Space got into work at the Chubb Insurance company at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, realized the lottery ticket he was holding matched the winning numbers, and fired off a one-line e-mail to his nine co-workers who had pitched in to buy it.

"We won the big one," it read.

The replies came back instantly: "Hahahaha" wrote one. "GREAT. Where do I pick up the cash?" joked another. Then they saw the ticket for themselves.

Cash in and flee you lucky bastards.

Sell everything and go far, far away. You can go to Central America and buy yourselves a county or something.

Try a swiss bank account where they won’t even give you your name.

I'm outraged. If it's outrageous when a CEO makes $10 million even if he's moderately successful, since obviously no one deserves to earn 200 times what his average worker earns, it must be even more outrageous when someone makes $20 million simply for getting lucky.

Oh wait, nevermind, his $20 million has nothing to do with me so I couldn't care less how much he gets. Now if only people would mind their own business about executive salaries too...

Buy in America. Think Hawaii; Tahoe; Malibu.
New Zealand? Australia? You've gotta be kidding. We live in the most beautiful Country in the world. (been to to New Zealand..too far).

Anyway CONGRATS. That is some serious cash. AWESOME.

True but it is a long way for friends and family to go for a visit.

I once fancied Venezuela, the bass fishing there is / was really good.

No, Central America has some pretty good features. Heck, there sure can’t be many Central Americans there anymore because I see them all on the roads up here!

Freakin’ school bus stops around here look like downtown Tijuana.

216 million if in an annuity, meaning net present value about 120 million for a one-time payout, less 45% for state and local taxes leaves about 66 million, or roughly 7 million and change per player. Not bad.

WOW! Good news for Obama, there may be 7 job openings at Chubb. Well that’s if they don’t go under before time.

Not a bad payout, but the question would be: in this day and age, WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH IT? You can’t invest it in anything, you can’t put it in the bank where even supposedly FDIC insured accounts aren’t reliably insured anymore, so what happens? You buy bars of gold and keep them under the bed?

Uh? The Swiss banks just surrendered the names of 300 Americans to Congress so that Rangel and Geitner could prosecute them for “tax fraud.”

What Swiss secrecy?

There once was a B.C. (or could have been a Wizard of Id)cartoon - the character is getting presented with his lottery winnings. The presenter says “Congratulations on winning the lottery-what are you going to do with the money?”
and the winner says “get out of this state”

Sage advice for NJ dwellers such as myself and these winners.

On the bright side, at least Comrade Obama’s tax plans have not set in yet, so these winners will have a little something left after becoming “wealthy”!
