WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama’s charm tour is continuing, this time aimed at the heads of congressional committees set to visit the White House for dinner.
Officials say the president, first lady Michelle Obama and Senate and House committee chairmen will dine Wednesday night in the East Room. It’s part of the Obama White House’s new routine of inviting guests for casual chats on Wednesday nights.
The Obamas have hosted cocktail parties for political leaders, a concert for singer Stevie Wonder and a Super Bowl party for members of Congress. The new first family wants to use the White House as an asset to persuade lawmakers to support the administration’s agenda. Vice President Joe Biden also plans to attend Wednesday’s dinner.”
His “charm tour” is certainly selective. He pulls out all the stops for people he can use, but can barely manage to pass the time of day with a British PM:
