I vote 2.

Let me see, I have a list:

Jacket - the lapels do not lay flat and are wrinkled, the hem is puckered and wrinkled, either it is the wrong size or the sweater underneath is causing an issue, because the sleeves are too tight on the upper arms and the jacket does not hang correctly. She apparently is unable to fasten the jacket, which at least would have made it appear a little more pulled together.

Pants - too tight through the thighs, so the crease disappears and you get that “cute” wrinkle in the crotch. I’m okay with this in very casual clothing, but not in dress clothing. Makes shopping for dress pants interesting.

Shirt - mitered stripes are very busy and the high busy neckline is unflattering with this jacket. On color issue see below.

Sweater - okay, first for me - cardigan under a suit jacket, but maybe its the new thing. See color below.

Belt - I’m completely lost on this one. Why belt the sweater at all? Especially under a suit type jacket? I have no clue what this woman is thinking when she gets dressed.

Colors - jacket is heather grey, pants are charcoal grey, then the shirt is blue and white, the cardigan teal and the belt yet another shade of blue.

I think maybe she just put on all her favorite pieces all at once.

I went to boarding school (cringe). We had courses in how to dress properly (according to the rules of that time). You had a point limit per outfit and you assigned so many points to each color, so many points to a print, so many points to each button on the front of an outfit, so many points to each piece of the outfit, so many points for each “decorative” element of the outfit, including belts, shoes, jewelry. If you accumulated too many points, you were improperly dressed. The system is good guidance. You dress your style, but you keep it within guidelines using the point system and you always look pulled together. If Mrs. Obama had totted up her points, she’d have made other decisions about this outfit.

Okay....my turn

The jacket color is an okay choice. Personally, I think she is much better with colors in the warm tones. The jacket construction is fine - the problem is that it is not groomed. There is nothing wrong that a 10 minute session with a steamer couldn't fix, along with a light dusting of starch to give it some body.

The pants are right out. They are inappropriate in this setting and clearly do not fit. Either she has gained weight since she bought them or they were purchased too small.

The shirt is much too busy and is not even a current style. I'm not seeing high necked mitered stripes any where. What I am seeing are some tailored striped looks, but this is a nightmare and should be burned.

The cardigan. Yeah, I've seen this look in a magazine or two, but she is wearing the belt wrong. The belt should actually be on the outside of the jacket pulling the entire look together. However, this look is best used with a very thin belt.

Overall color choices - a flat F. If she is picking out her own clothes, she needs to stop immediately. Sister-friend needs to be dressed.

Rule #1 - Don't allow your clothes to draw attention to themselves and away from YOU and your message.

Rule #2 - Re-read rule #1. It's the only rule that really counts.

You listed exactly what I was going too - amazing how noticeable her fashionless ability is! What is this woman thinking when she gets dressed? All I can say, is at least she wasn't bare-armed in this get-up. And her clothes are so wrinkled and unkempt looking as though she picked them up from a pile on her bedroom floor.

Geeze, we looked more stylish in our high-school gym suits (which we had to have clean and pressed or we received a demerit) in our day than Michelle ever does at her public appearances. Please...somebody...nominate her for the "What Not to Wear" show! They need to make Michelle face herself in the three-way mirror and throw out all of her clothes.

Shirt: if you look closely at the photos of her jacket, you will note that there are no shirt cuffs at the wrist - therefore, the shirt must be sleeveless - or short-sleeved and maybe that’s why the jacket shoulders are bunching up.
