I think we can all agree (perhaps not) the GOP has a long way to go to simply get to mediocre as far as conservative principles are concerned. RINO's abound and the GOP has become nothing more than "Democrat Light".
WHAT IF Rush does in fact start a conservative 3rd party, and his 20 million listeners immediately leave the GOP and join this new outfit. Let's also assume this happens in the next couple of weeks..
What are the implications for the '10 races?
What are the implications for the '12 race for President?
Wouldn't this simply split the GOP and hand '10 and '12 back to the democrats? (small "d", it's intentional) due to a split vote??
Would the new conservative party become large enough in the next 2 years to displace the GOP or at least have a major impact on the upcoming elections?
Who would lead? IOW, who are the current Republicans that we'd like to take with us, and who are the RINO's we'd leave on the bench with a pleasant, "Thanks but no thanks, we don't want you"?
The chances of this actually happening are somewhere between slim and none, IMO, and I believe I just saw slim climb on his horse and head out of town, but the time is coming, eventually, for a new conservative party. It's not a question of "if", but "when"..
Start a Conservative Party with or without El Rushbo. And for those concerned with loss of power, etc, remember this. The desire to hold on to power at almost any cost/ compromise/ play the game is what got the GOP into this mess in the first place.
Time to jettison the Snowes, Collins and Spectors of this world, and those that share their ‘moderation’. Organize, set out your principles, stick to those principles, and you WILL attract the voters.
There's the rub. Where the hell is the leader? And the other poster is correct. Lincoln won because the vote was split four ways.
Perhaps what Rush should be doing is funding/growing the Green Party, to split the leftist vote.
Whether a Conservative Third Party would actually come to existence or not - or make it to maturity or not... The Republican Elite Establishment (RINO - The Aloof Democrat Lite Repugs) Will Not listen to Conservatives unless a serious threat is made to move Conservative Votes to a unified voting Bloc.
We could stay or go - leave the Republican Party or stay on as a loyal contingent. BUT - UNTIL we seriously threaten the Republican Establishment or removal of our votes — we Conservatives will be NOTHING in their eyes except Votes on Demand. You know - ‘engineer’ - force the nomination of Juan McCain - RINO - Liberal - Illegal Alien lover — as he is and fully expect Conservatives to be enthusiastic about the Republican Party - and many fall right in line.
REVOLT against the Republican Establishment, I say.
Replace Them - Retire Them... or Move on to greener pastures - because as long as the RINO / Democrat Lite Establishment has control of the Republican Party - WE HAVE NO VOICE - None — Bottom Line. Just look at the knee jerk response that Steele made (pressured by the Elites) - notice he said he as sorry. A few phone calls from the Repug Elites and Steele will be back on track - behind the scenes - Bowing and Curtsying to the Elites who have forgotten who Ronald Reagan was - or perhaps never knew...
No. Lincoln took 180 out of 303 electoral votes. If you look at the returns in 1860, Lincoln won clear majorities in states with 173 our of those 180 of those votes. In other words had he lost California and Oregon he still would have won the presidency.
You’d have two medium sized parties which would split the non-Democrat vote, and end up with elected Democrats even in places like Wyoming and South Carolina.
“Well if history guides us, that would pretty much guarantee democrat rule for the foreseeable future wouldnt it?”
You are exactly correct! Division among the conservatives is precisely what the Obama administration and the inept media want.....and they WILL try to foment this. Be aware, folks....
The necessity to appeal to the "swing" vote is a big reason that so many RINOs have survived in the GOP.
Though one thing that hasn't been been discussed is the possibility of a fracture in the GOP causing a similar fracture in the Democrats. If the Conservatives bolt the party could the moderate Democrats also leave the far left wing of their party, combine with the moderate Republicans, and leave basically a three way split?
The best way to do this is for conservatives to:
1) Get involved in the GOP apparatus at the county level. Flood the county Party with motivated conservative activists who will be able, at the next county convention, to get elected as precinct chairs and on the Executive Committee (or analog).
2) Once the counties are on board, have the ECs for each county network with each other to promote and elected solid conservative candidates at the state level.
3) Once the state level apparati are taken over, conservatives in each state Party then network with other state Parties to come to a consensus on solid conservative candidates, and then the national Party will be open to taking because it is representatives from the state Parties who have the bulk of the votes needed to elect the national Executives, and who decide who will be on things like the RCCC and RNSC and so forth.
All of this that I've outlined above could be accomplished, in most states at least, within two years. In the meantime, conservatives can network with each other to operate outside of any Party apparatus not under our control yet. For instance, instead of giving money to the NRSC and RCCC, we can develop our own parallel structure and decide who to give money to, in the primaries too if a challenge is needed to knock off a RINO incumbent.
This talk of another "conservative third party" is foolish, unmitigatedly stupid nonsense. There'd be no better way to ensure Democrat domination for a generation. Why waste our energies on third parties which are generally just ego trips for vain individuals who want to get attention to themselves anywise?
We would win the Presidency in 2012 or sooner
Sooner? I don’t think so.
That's an understatement. Boehner showed his true colors with the recent omnibus spending bill. He included several earmarks. Effective leaders lead by example. Boehner's example, among others, speaks for itself. (loudly)
One thing that must be done, and Rush touched on it yesterday with his response to Micheal Steele, is putting an end to open primaries which allow Dims to cross the aisle and participate in large numbers in the nomination of our candidates. I'm convinced that is how we wound up with Mclaim and many other RINO's like him.....
Hmmm. Has it worked for the Green or Libertarian Party?
Ditto.
I think success in starting a new party would be a function of three things:
1) Credible leadership. Rush COULD provide that.
2) Marketing and branding.
3) MONEY. Let me say that again, for emphasis: MONEY
2), Marketing and Branding, is IMO very important. If you call it the “Constitution” party or the “Freedom” party or somesuch, you will firmly be associated in the publics’ mind with nutcases in a compound in Idaho with .50 cal weapons embedded in rock walls who don’t pay their taxes. (Not that I’m all that opposed to such, but it won’t sell.)
Call it instead, something with Republic in it. Like the “NEW Republican” party. And brand it with Ronald Reagan right there in the logo! (You can change it later).
Third, get the MONEY flowing. Find a couple angels with lots of dough, but also get you some youngish but very conservative web-machine-engineers to replicate that Obama money machine.
Just my $.02
Rush has a place in this world and he is there for information. It is time our GOP leaders got balls. It will take more that Rush.
Lets call it the capitalist party. We could then run against the Republicrats and the communist Democrats.
A third party is crazy! The dems would end up controlling the House, senate, and presidency! Ummm, wait a sec, don’t they already?
A third party would not work, period. The Republican party was once ours and we have let the moderate boneheads take it from us. Now they are just being bullies. We should quit bickering amongst ourselves and confront them.
An effective third party would focus first on local, state, and congressional races only in places where they can win. If they can keep the Dems and the GOP from having majorities, the thrid party can hold a lot of bargaining chips while educating the public until they replace the GOP as a major party.
