Got this up,...looking good so far...now if I can improve the fonts...I might stick with it for a while.
Got 6 workspaces and compiz,...gives me a rotating Hexagon....
Thanks Ernest. If I could get the freakin’ Ubuntu distro to install on any of the machines I’ve got around here, I might try this new one. ;’)

What kind of hardware you playing with?
Curious. What can I do with Ubuntu? I have a Mac with Safari and it also has Win XP with IE and Safari. Should I bother to play with Ubuntu? Would it work on an old laptop currently running Win ME?
that there is a loaded question :)
Ubuntu 8.10 + ubuntu restricted extras + official Ubuntu updates = Ubuntu extras remix

What are some of the specific troubles?
How old,..?
.might do better with some of the lighter ones like Puppy Linux,...SLAX,...DSL,...Zenwalk,...there are lots more.I think Mepis has a lite version....antiX or something like that...
I bought in in 2000.
.That might be a good place to start....
Thanks. I will look into it.
It won’t install. I’ve gotten the CD burned just fine (two, or perhaps three versions), but it will neither boot nor install. The official Ubuntu book has a DVD inside the back cover, and I bought the total waste of money (the book, IMHO), only to find that it was a DVD (the text refers to it as a CD throughout) and I had but one machine available which had a DVD-ROM in it (these are mostly castoffs from work, and all of the Wintel hardware I have is 1990s vintage), which (after a bunch of tries) finally installed and then rebooted off the hard drive with success (the second reboot). That machine didn’t come home with me, alas. Pretty desktop, and I’m sure it would do fine as a surfer OS etc.
Anyway, thanks!
I’ve had the same issues with some older hardware.
a click on Fluxbox led me by steps to here:
this link is probably useless per se, but is the result page for my search for PPC Linux distros:
