From NBC's Chuck Todd There's been plenty of speculation over the last few years that somehow Speaker Nancy Pelosi's personal views on key social issues, like guns, would cause political problems for, say, pro-gun Democrats who have been elected to Congress in the last two elections. Well, here's an example of why Pelosi is a much shrewder politician than she gets credit for and why she has more support inside her caucus, even among younger and newer members, than people around town realize.
Check out this exchange from Pelosi's press briefing today.
Q: "Madam Speaker, Attorney General Holder yesterday said that the Administration wants to reinstitute the assault weapons ban. Have you talked with Administration officials about that, and how quickly can you bring it to the floor?"
Speaker Pelosi: No, but I think on that score, one good place to start would be to enforce the laws that are on the books right now. And I think the evidence points this out, that the Bush Administration was not enforcing law. So let's start with enforcing the law that we have now."
That's right, Pelosi is using talking points which used to be standard NRA talking points regarding gun laws for years... "start with enforcing the law" on the books.

I know a gun retailer who probably passed out laughing at her assertion that the laws weren’t being enforced.
He had to provide office space for a BATFE jackal whose full time job for several months was to go through every last 4472 on file and look for transposed digits in zip codes and the like, well before Obama was even in the primary, let alone elected.
NEVER trust what any Dhim says about pro-gun rights.
Where’s ma gun? Gonna shoot that critter.
Yes, the key operative was to attack Bush creating a diversion from her real intent.
ACORN paid for the ads with US Taxpayers money?
Except the goa has been awol from doing anything by themselves.
AWOL to the Katrina victims.
AWOL to gun manufacturer’s protection.
AWOL to Concealed Carry laws.
AWOL to the Morton Grove handgun ban.
AWOL to the Oak Park handgun ban.
AWOL to the Winnetka handgun ban.
AWOL to the San Francisco handgun ban.
I ran out of time.
Call the goa and tell them to get off the sidelines.
Well gun hater which gun control laws was this person not enforcing?
A new AWB will never happen, guys. This country’s mentality is not the same now as it was in the early 90’s. The reps and senators are on board with the people, and they know it will be their political necks on the line if they vote for a new ban. Don’t know if you heard, but a bi-partisan task force was formed in Congress over the last couple days to protect 2nd Amendment rights. There are enough Dems that are pro-gun that a vote will be pretty lopsided in opposition to a new ban. Keep the faith, folks! They are listening.
You apparently missed my point.
Time will tell but I think you are wrong. The rabid left is not getting their way on many other issues. Guns will be the throw away.
Wonder if she saw any of the signs in gun stores touting Obysmal as "Salesman of the Year"?
Succinct and to the point. Good on you ;^) What few understand is that it isn't a war on guns, it's a war on freedom. The guns make it harder to defeat proponents of freedom and individual liberty. (these ass*oles used to wear Red Coats, today, they're real clean-cut and faggy looking- same sh*t, different shoes)
We're in a battle with folks who, if they win, could carry-out their agenda 100-150 years unabated. So, no, they can't have my guns and if they move to abolish ammo, then I'll switch to arrows and spears. If I had to choose, I'd probably prefer taking a bullet over a broadhead 'cause they make a mess- whatever they hit.
You could live with a bullet lodged in you, but an arrow has to be 'broken off' and then pushed through like in the Westerns.
I received the following email response from the NRA on this subject. Good to know the NRA is there to protect our rights.
Thank you for your email. Most of these bills died at the end of the sessions in 2008. However, they will likely be reintroduced this session, and sessions thereafter, and will certainly pose significant threats: www.ammunitionaccountability.com
So far we’ve been successful in preventing passage of this legislation. Legislation in California or one of the New England states has a chance of getting through; however, most legislators and ballistics experts recognize that the this and similar technology is unreliable: http://www.nraila.org/Issues/FactSheets/Read.aspx?id=246
This is a proposal by a commercial enterprise that has a patent on technology to imprint the codes. They are trying to create a demand for their product by making it mandatory. Though the “Ammunition Accountability” website claims it is “a newly forming group” that “includes gun crime victims, industry representatives, law enforcement, public officials, public policy experts, and more,” the owner of the company admitted on NRA News that his lobbying firm put up the whole thing.
We have a fact sheet on the issue and link to the NRA News interview at http://www.nraila.org/Issues/FactSheets/Read.aspx?id=227&issue=005 , and a feature article that appeared in NRA magazines on this and other ammunition issues is available at http://www.nraila.org/Issues/Articles/Read.aspx?id=289
Opposing “ammunition accountability” remains at the top of our list of legislative priorities. We’ll keep everyone posted on our website and in our magazines if they try to seriously pursue passage in any state, or in the U.S. Congress.
Sincerely,
Krista Cupp

If the legislation passes, we need to have unaccounted for ammo held back, and use the new “accountable” ammo for target, hunting etc.
