P-I Employees Bracing For Paper's Shutdown
SEATTLE -- On Wednesday, employees of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer newspaper learned how to file for unemployment after the paper shuts down.
Though the paper is still up for sale and it's possible that someone could buy it, the closure of the paper is increasingly likely. Dan Raley wasn't scheduled to work Wednesday, but the longtime sports columnist was at the P-I building anyway for a meeting he said he didn't want to attend.
"I'm here for an unemployment benefits meeting, something I can't imagine I'd ever be doing," said Raley.
After 30 years at the paper, Raley and other P-I employees are facing the likelihood they'll soon be out of work.
"It's just like being on death row. It's not fun, it's not encouraging, but a lot of people are going through this so it's not like we feel alone," said Raley.

Cool. Hope the Seattle Times is close behind.
And the SF Chron.
Better watch out. You might get flamed from the "how dare you hope people lose their jobs" crowd. :)
Does Seattle have a conservative or even middle of the road newspaper ?
And therein lies the problem, dude.
Summer is on the way. They should be able to queue up in the Home Depot parking lot. Not to worry.
But..But..Obama their hero was supposed to save the economy and make it all better.
And what will take it’s place?
To quote Aristotle: “Nature abhors a vacuum”
Nice to start the day off with a toe-tag pic, eh?
The P-I was a leftist rag as far back as the late 1970s when I was just a lad.
I can just see all the libs and lefties ringing their hands, drinking their Starbucks, saying “somebody’s gotta do something!”
Of course, like all lefties, they will do nothing but whine about it.
Which, of course, makes me happy.
Not when less that 20% of the people living in Seattle are not conservative or even middle of the road. No if you want to read a conservative paper printed in Washington state you will have to subscribe to small town rural papers like the Morton Logger, the Mossyrock Gazette, the Skamania Sasquatch.
[/hijack = off]
Replacing a vacuum with a vacuum sounds like a steady state, though.
This is so awesome to see liberals hurting.
I know it is not good to be happy over someone else’s trouble, but ha ha ha.
You liberals are getting the change you voted for. I hope all the liberals starve.
