I may be alone on this, but as a lifelong independent conservative I don't know how anyone can compare Palin to Jindal. Don't get me wrong - I love Palin as a person and I love her positions on the issues. But some of the interviews were just embarrasing. I dislike Gibson and Couric more than anyone, but at times she was non-sensical or just plain empty in her answers and that can't be blamed on anyone but Palin.
I have seen others have their conservatism questioned because they have reservations about Palin. Just because someone has conservative positions that I agree with, doesn't mean they are presidential material. My grandmother has great positions on the issues but she would not make a good president.
Jindal may come off as a geek, and maybe he's too young to run in 2012. But this guy is the most brilliant, capable conservative I've seen in years. I live in Louisiana so I have watched him up close. He is the real deal.
That’s a good point about socon vs notsocon. But then, plenty of socons were all for Mike Huckabee, so that shows you how reliable they are. Suckers.
Keyes is not a great statesman. He’s a buffoon.
Good post. Me=strong ficon. The other two? not so much. I mean, I’m for a strong defense—but I want it to be just that—DEFENSE. The socons, to me, are suckers. They allow the likes of GWB to buy them off with a few ornamental nods to pro-life views so they can spend spend spend and totally mismanage our affairs.
Im for a strong defensebut I want it to be just thatDEFENSE.

If you stay on defense just defense, you buy time for the enemy. And the enemy will then find a way to tunnel under, fly over, knock down or pay someone to open the gates ... and neutralize your wall.
Jindal and Palin are both popular for what they look like.
One is a minority, the other a woman.
We are trying to out magic-negro the democrats.
Instead we should be picking a General who has been in the shiite in iraq, and can crush the obambi on his - soon to be proven - wrong decision making, in the war on terror.
Pakistan is going down the taliban tubes faster than the stock market, and with it goes its nukes. Israel is ready to open up a can of industrial strength wup ass on Iran. Our Deer-in-the-headlights and Chief will become a basket case overnight.
I was not for Huckabee....bad on illegals....
I was for Fred.
then Palin
Tancredo in a pipe dream too
In the general, I voted for McCain with the same enthusiasm I brought to my primary vote. Almost didn't bother.
Fred's positions were sound, but it was very clear to me from almost the moment he got in he had no chance. With Palin, I enjoyed her introductory speech very much. It was pretty much downhill from there. Nevermind everyone's excuses, she absolutely bombed in her two big network interviews. Hostile playing field? Sure. Editing? Sure. But I saw unedited disaster in her performance. I wasn't manipulated by the media. I came to my own conclusion. Her debate performance was very weak also.
Since then, of course, Palin supporters have painted it as "real conservatives" who support Palin vs. milquetoast elites who don't. I don't think I'm an elitist. I'm more of a libertarian. I'm an old school Madisonian. And I simply want better.
Truly, I'm not sure I will vote GOP anymore. If they put up as lame a ticket as they did last time, I'll probably vote for some scrub.
Dude, the real conservatives have jumped the shark and landed on the upper deck of the Cruise Ship; all that’s left are the slow swimmers and the castaway landlubbers.
I’m not necessarily sold on Jindal as yet but the point is that we have to stop eating our own. Too many conservatives are acting like a buddy I used to fish with who drove me crazy. He’d try a lure and cast three times and if he didn’t get a bite, he’d change lures or bait. One poor speech, one disappointing decision, one bad interview and we cut the line and look for a new candidate.
We have to have more patience and grow the bench. Conservatives have become far more effective at destroying conservatives then any liberal could ever dream.
I actually have a way of saying this ins a more catchy way:
Family
Freedom
Fiscal Responsiblity
The Republican party!
That is not the Republican stand any longer.
It should be!
abb, when are you going to stop misleading people on Jindal? I live in BR and have watched his every move. He is doing a tremendous job. Would you rather Blanco back? Didn’t think so.
I live in Ruston and have also watched his every move. No, I don’t want Blanco back - what I want is for Jindal to do what he promised to do.
That is, cut the size of government, cut spending and cut taxes. To the degree that he’s done those things, it was because the Louisiana electorate threw a hissy fit.
That is all I’ve ever said if you would bother to look back at my posting history.
