That is NOT the way to hold the wine glass. White wine is temperature sensitive. One holds the glass by the stem, never by the bowl of the glass.
Also, this is not a formal event as the commentators called it. Formal is white tie, this is semi-formal black tie.
The pearls mixed with what appears to be a silvery neckless is all wrong.
One would think the protocol person would give them an etiquette book to read.
Last night “took the cake” with me. I’m confused — was the First Lady on her way to a dinner date or coming from one? In either event, she should take her social secretary to task for scheduling her appearances to close together and not allowing her time to change into more fitting attire for her appearance in the seat of power for the most powerful nation in the world.
Would she wear something like that to the office? To court?? Why, then, would she think it appropriate for the floor of the Senate? She wasn’t appearing at Tavern on the Green, or 51, or a jazz joint in Chicago — it was the floor of the Senate for heaven’s sake! Although the dress was flattering, it was totally inappropriate.
I’m not going to say another word. She’s beyond hope — poor deportment notwithstanding.
