I don’t see anything good for long-range hunting of game the size of deer and up. No 30.06 or something else in that class.

Also, a Marlin is a better choice than the 10/22. It’s the most plentiful .22 rifle in the world with over 10 million sold, so parts are very easy to come by. It also carries 18 rounds.

That's the beautiful thing about the Ruger 10/22, they don't often need parts. I've had one since 1989 and the thing is like the Energizer Bunny. Add my HotLips banana clip, and it carries 50 rounds. They even make speed loaders for the banana clips, try that with the Marlin and the barrel tube.

Marlin stopped making the 17+1 Model 60 in the late 80’s or early 90’s. The new Model 60 loads 14 rounds and has a shorter barrel. I was lucky to get a model that had the 18 round capacity, 22 inch barrel, and the last shot bolt lock as my first .22 when I was about 10. They made those models for just a few years in the late 80’s before Clinton's ban.

I love the look, feel, and accuracy of my Marlin .22, but I have problems with cycling every time I shoot it unless I take it completely apart and spend an hour cleaning it. I finally bought a Ruger .22 and love that I don't have the maintenance on it that I have with the Marlin. It really brightens my day when I can shoot all day without a stovepipe or other cycling error. Just my .22 cents.

The first rifle I shot as a 9 year old was my grandfather’s Marlin 60. I bought my my daughter a Marlin 60 for Christmas this past year.

Winchester Model 74. Had it for ages. Step father owned it before me, bought it new in 1957. It works great, has been used to kill hundreds, if not thousands, of squirrels and rabbits. Still works fine and is in excellent condition, over 99 percent of blue intact, stock is great. Love this old Winchester.

You’ve got to be kidding! My 10/22 has several 25 round mags, and will empty them very rapidly and flawlessly.
