What you are saying about XANX is true. Its a human medication and the results on a chimp are not known.
But I don’t think the woman was an idiot and she and her friend have suffered enough. She was misguided and probably lonely.

No doubt she fed him her diet of Cheetos, fries, double shakes, lots of chocolate chips and cake. All that sugar probably drove the poor beast over the edge.

Male chimps get up to 200 lbs? I thought they were more like 140-150 lbs.? Even a 100 pound chimp will rip your arm off and beat you over the head with it. They are incredibly powerful animals.

This is the face of the diseased, mentally deficient liberal mind. Dumb-ass Sandy bought into the liberal mindset of charity-solves-everything. She is completely stupefied that a wild animal could do this and she thought her wild ape had, with her help, evolved over a single lifetime into a sweet little care-bear.
Kind of like our liberal politicians and how they view the TALIBAN.

I thought the ape was prescribed the xanax since it was getting over lyme disease? So far, I have not read that, and she did not say that in the interview that I watched.

What a moron I’d rather have a tiger in my house than a chimp. Seriously at least if a Tiger kills you its usually pretty quick while an ape will pull your arms out of your sockets and claw your eyes out.
To boot tigers are usually more predictable.

But I dont think the woman was an idiot and she and her friend have suffered enough Well, that's the charitable view, but....domesticating any powerful wild animal is at best a risky enterprise.
I see people with wild, large cats....and I wonder when the cat plans to put the mustard on them.
In general, the people who do this seem to be risk takers who don't think things through very well, or simply disregard anyone who tries to caution them.
For me, that's sort of the functional definition of an idiot.

From the Guinness book of records 1975
In 1924 “Boma” a 165 lbs male chimp at the Bronx zoo, New York, recorded a right handed pull (feet braced) of 847 Lbs on a dynamometer.(the comparison given is 210 lbs for a man of the same weight). On another occasion, “Suzette” registered a pull of 1260 lbs while in a rage (same zoo).
A record form the USA of a 100 lbs chimp achieving a dead lift of 600 lbs with ease suggests that, with training, a Male gorilla could raise 1800 lbs.
