I lost 40lbs, including muscle, of which I spent years in the gym building. Constantly with urgency I needed to urinate. Though I feared the worst, I did the typical 'guy thing' by choosing not to see a doctor. It was October and I was scheduled to go on a national “Stop Obama Tour” with Our Country Deserves Better PAC. I didn't want any bad news.

I'm a professional singer/ entertainer. My job on the tour was to energize the crowds at every rally (40 total) preparing them to hear our speakers, blue star mom, Deborah Johns and national talk show host, Mark Williams.

Even though seeking the nearest restroom was extremely stressful, the tour was absolutely wonderful. I loved meeting the hard working, God fearing, good and decent American people. I hugged a lot of folks, shook a lot and hands, prayed with some and shed a few patriotic tears.

Once back home from the tour, I saw a doctor. Diabetes and High Blood Pressure. The doctor said my blood sugar was probably over 400 while on the tour. Normal is around 84 to 100. Amazingly, I never felt ill or lost energy on the tour. God protected me.

Now I take a few pills and have severely changed my diet. Currently, my weekly sugar average is around 130. With exercise, I believe I can get it in the normal range.

With Obama in the White House, lowering my high blood pressure will be a challenge. But I'm a proud conservative American. We thrive on challenges.

Lloyd Marcus, President NAACPC, National Association for the Advancement of Conservative People of Color.

Bless you Lloyd, and after meeting you on the tour, I can say you are strong, and will beat this health challenge. I have a sister who was just diagnosed the same, and I pray that you can keep up all the good you do while still keeping a good eye on your health! Take care, and keep your head up, and your powder dry!

Take care Lloyd. I am sure your doctor told you that you will now have to watch more than just your blood sugar.

Lloyd -

Prayers up for healing and strength. God is the ultimate healer and He is good.

I met you at the Carson City, NV "Stop Obama Tour" and very much enjoyed your part in the program - your music was very inspirational. While the mission wasn't successful, you and your traveling show were a joy to meet.

Nadine - Dayton, NV

I am sorry to hear about the diabetes and I want to thank you for the fighting the good fight for the conservative cause.

My 57 yo husband was diagnosed with diabetes about a year ago. He has controlled his diabetes through a low carb diet and medication. I cannot stress the importance of maintaining your diet. He also was hypertensive and because of the diet he has lowered his BP as well. He was on medication for that but it made him feel weird so he stopped that.....

He also got a computer program from somewhere that keeps track of his sugars....FReep mail me if you want that info

take care

I wish you well, Lloyd. I remember the severe change in diet that I undertook upon diagnosis. Dropped 13 lbs in 3 weeks based on diet change alone.

Yes, exercise, particularly of an aerobic nature, will help you control blood sugar, especially when dealing with fasting spikes.

My biggest problem - other than a total lifestyle change - was switching from my usual and natural 2-large-meals-per-day to 3 smalls that allowed for snacking in between, in order to even out sugar spikes from the liver and avoid sending my metabolism into hoard mode.

Best of luck to you!

(Pinging to the keeper of the Diabetes PL for support.)

I have type II. diet/pills is a must. Hopefully, you won’t have to inject insulin.

Your doctor is your friend. Use him/her.
