And what political party should we pin our hopes on to accomplish this? Both parties are bought and paid for by special interest and they dont listen to us.As far as the Fair Tax,of which I am a rabid supporter,is concerned it doesnt stand a chance in hell without a major tax revolt.Who amoung us will start?

Worse than Obama’s?

And there is the rub. So many here rejected Ron Paul outright based on his so-called shortcoming on foreign policy (which I think would be better expressed as his opposition to the current WOT... particularly our action in Iraq).

But those same folks decided to throw their support to a RINO of massive proportion who served with honor in the Air Force (gotta give McCain that one). But who, though supporting the WOT, is a blooming idiot on economics, immigration, the US Constitution, and now - obvious to all - politics.

Ron Paul's one strike - WOT (which though is important - folks were willing to sacrifice a whole lot more fronts to push McCain...).

And now we are falling apart financially and bailing head-first into the cement pond of Socialism (and without any water in it to cushion the blow).

And we now have a RAT Uber-Socialist pig in the Whitehouse who woudl just as soon sign a surrender to his Muslim "brethren". Ugh...

The problem isn't as simple as voting for the right people. It's a lot bigger than that. The problem is the 51% that vote for leftist/marxists and feel good about it. THAT is the problem. In addition to that problem are those who vote for RINOs and then feel good pretending that those candidates are conservatives. That's what ruined the conservative base this time around. So even if the correct people could be brought to power, we've still got two solid generations of idiots who have been trained by the public school systems, university systems, and their own parents who we'd have to contend with, in addition to those who can't tell the difference between RINOs and conservatives.

We're way past the point of the solution being as simple as voting in the correct people. I'm afraid the solution is going to be a tad uglier than that.

We don't NEED a particular "party" if we can get just ONE person to run on the pledge I've laid out for president. If enough votes are won in the congressional races by anyone running on this pledge, the problem of "party" becomes mute. In addition, if the feds are successfully rolled back into their tiny cage, "parties" won't mean as much on the national level as they are now. The point is to get the power back to the states and to do so in a way where this NEVER gets out of hand as it is again.

If someone were running on this type of pledge, that is to TOTALLY remove all hidden taxation through corporations, remove all social security taxes, and end all federal taxation of any sort on the individual, wouldn't YOU support them? I'd have to think that this is a shoe-in for president.

2 new laws that will solve the problem (but will never happen):

1. Line item veto
2. Congressional term limits.

Number 1 cuts them off from pork, and number 2 reduces the need for pork. It’s all about money.

“If we can make this TOTALLY a “states” issue...”

What “this” are you writing about?

It really isn’t a fallacy when you have a fiat money system. It would be if we had real money, like when the country was first established.

But since the government can basically print money whenever it wants because it’s simply backed by ‘confidence’ - whatever that may mean to anyone - and since we’ve had Federal Reserve chiefs who have said on record that given our money system, the tax system is merely punitive, we could do away with federal taxes.

"Pledge"? They pledge before an election, and then do what benefits them personally the most afterwards. Even Bush turned on us with Shamnesty. The office of President isn't that powerful. Sure, he can veto, and coerce. But we're all staring a situation in the face where KEY people in the House and Senate who caused the problems we're seeing now are continuously voted in by people who are our peers. The inmates are now running the jail (so to speak). But this problem is far greater than that, and historically the types of problems we're seeing start to unfold have been dealt with using methods involving physical force and not something as civil as a ballot box. Too many people are trying to avoid the real solution. I don't agree fundamentally with too many things said by communists, but Chairman Mao Tse-Tung spoke well when he was quoted as saying that "...real power comes from the barrel of a gun."

But even Mao's words aren't going to help much this time around. Too many Americans bought into the lie that they could "own" homes, and cars, and "nice things" on credit. Certified financial planners were trained on how to maximize profits with "techniques" designed specifically to keep the borrower within legal parameters, but at the same time, make it difficult. Too many people are too short sighted, and have no plans for the future other than their next pay check, and the base for which that is provided is eroding as we sit and enter our words in this forum.

But worse than this, these people who traded real freedom for the slavery of debt have no will to fight. They have no fortitude. Such is the nature of a slave. I'm sure I'll offend some with what I've written here, and I have in the recent past. But inwardly, everybody who is a slave to debt knows that this is true. I'm not criticizing them personally. I can personally attest to just how difficult it is to live within our means and plan for adversity. It requires discipline and the desire to delay gratification. But too many have been trained that WE ARE AMERICANS!....and we don't wait for anything! WE GET WHAT WE WANT NOW! ...and we get mad if we don't! As a nation, we have a "microwave mentality"...."Have it your way!"...and get mad and demand a free meal if we don't!

I hate to disagree with you, but you and I and everybody else who "could" make a difference are just too far outnumbered. Oh we'd put up a hell of a fight! They'd remember us for a good long time! But there aren't enough of us to win.

The bottom line is this....to break the illegal taxation will require a war. That's the way it's happened in the past and it's what happens any time enough people of a nation revolt against their government on account of it.

We're historically overdue for some major civil conflict anyway. I can't say exactly how it will come around, but it doesn't take a genius to see that there will be no good end to what we're digressing to now...whether that be a civil conflict with "lines drawn", or riots... I don't know. But unless something changes SOON, it won't be good.

Personally, I hope you're right. But I don't think you are.

Yes, this should be viewed as a means to END federalism. Assign all present federal programs to the states for their own enforcement/modifications/etc. Set up 50 laboratories for how best to govern. The crap will disappear as those states refusing to modify their approaches to whatever becomes "normal" will suffer financially until they correct things. We do not need federal agencies to disburse anything but that which is paid for by the state legislatures as they (the legislatures) deem appropriate for national purposes.

A good, articulate candidate who proposes to end the status quo with this instead would, in my opinion, get incredible resistance from those who have power now, as well as incredible support from the regular citizens of this nation who haven't had their views represented in Washington, D.C. for decades now.

Such a candidate, campaigning NOW would send a strong signal to those currently serving in Congress to get their act straight with the people or they are toast. This would certainly give some of them pause to whether or not they wish to support Obama's socialism. Another aspect of this is that it would set the debate around states rights for the next election cycle which would encourage the states themselves to get involved in shaping this debate for their own purposes.

I agree about what Ron Paul says for a while and then he seems to kind of veer off the cliff and reminds me of a crazy relative. I wish we had a candidate who believed in the constitution like he does but seems more sane.

Once you understand that it's the centrally planned monetary system that is at the heart of America's problems, you understand where Ron Paul is coming from. Central planning doesn't work. The monetary system is centrally planned, but it's as if nobody sees it. People just turn away, stop trying to understand, whenever the consequences of the federal reserve are discussed. We all just seem to accept it. I guess, because it's always been there. But when you explore the topic you realize that central banking is a curse. Jefferson saw it as evil and killed the 1st attempt. Jackson, a Jeffersonian, killed the 2nd central bank. Our fed is the 3rd.

The fed creates inflation, which leads to the economic booms which inevitably lead to the economic bust (which we are now experiencing.) The fed enables the growth of the massive FedGov under which we all suffer now. The fed is a curse.

It's ALL about this, with Ron Paul. And he's absolutely right. His philosophical core comes from classical liberalism and the Austrian school of economics
