Yes, jets leave ice clouds (water vapor) behind in the Stratosphere every time they fly through. They are the result of a reaction to taking in subzero air, (-15 deg. and colder) heating it to over 1500 degrees, then dumping it back into the air again.

It's also known as condensation sublimation. The ice crystals will linger there for hours and sometimes days or weeks, depending on the level of winds in the jet stream.

I have spent a large number of hours behind the yoke in a cockpit myself and frequently followed my own jet wash on the return trip a day later. It was every bit as fresh and visible as it was the day before on some occasions.

The idea that this is some conspiracy that the Government is poisoning us with chemicals or trying to control us with “chem-trails” is simply ignorant stupidity.

But go ahead, call “After Dark” (George Norrie or Art Bell) and join in the fun of being patently stupid. Your choice.
