What's with all the backwards US flags I'm seeing on TV and the movies these days?
On 3 separate episodes of NCIS, one of the cast members was in military BDU's and wearing the US flag on the upper right shoulder. Problem was the flag was made backwards (blue union on upper right instead of left). In one Van Damm movie the flag was draped over a casket upside down AND backwards. This at a military funeral. In one war movie, the flag on the tank was backwards.
This is the epitome of ignorance, apathy, and disrepect as far as I'm comcerned.
I can't expect the poor, dumb, Chinese bastard who made it to know the difference, but I damned well expect the American who ordered it and spec'd it to.
Why aren't the viewers complaining? Why are we putting up with this crap?
Is anyone else noticing this?
So you are telling me that a direct order can be disobeyed in your Army.
That's not what he said. What he said was, "...there are occasions to challenge an order." There are, such as in the case of unlawful orders.
If it is then things have changed from the brown shoe Army.
Well, "I was just following orders" can't be used as a defense for illegal actions, that's for sure.
Hey, thanks.
I really find it humorous how people equate membership on a website with somehow being more correct, more conservative, or a better fisherman, etc. ad nauseum, when in fact it only shows they’ve been on a website longer than someone else, and nothing else, so good luck with this lams-ass strategy, junior.
I may be new, but at least I’m not stupid. It doesn’t matter how long you do something if you are WRONG, like you are, junior. Good try. How about learning something military today.
We were not talking about gassing Jews in showers.
Yes. That is what i meant.
In every military branch, certain orders can AND SHOULD be ignored.
LAME
I may be new, but at least Im not stupid.
I was protecting this country before your parents were married.
If the dope can’t comprehend the difference between civilian and military, how do you expect him to understand the difference between lawful and unlawful orders?
Corporate, no; county or State, yes. And when I fly my flag - on its single flag pole - I fly a State of Washington flag below it. Per US Code it's perfectly acceptable.
I understand you don't like it; however, your preference is NOT the actual US Code, and the fact I fly according to the US Code does not mean what I'm doing is wrong or disrespectful. I'm following the official US Government rules regarding flying the US Flag.
Nope, you were not “protecting this country” before my parents were married. WRONG! Sorry, chump
So there.
Neener, neener, neener. I win
Oh, and your argument STILL doesn’t make you any less ignorant and incorrect about the wearing of the flag on a military uniform.
I win that one, too.
Some folks just like to raise rucus just for the attention.. a.. pay attention to meeeeeee.. moment.. just ignore them. They’ve been corrected many times on the thread..
Does your mommy know you're on the computer?
The flag has two sides. Unless you hang it on the flag pole on the end of the flag where there are only stripes, you can’t “fly it backwards.”
Glad you asked ? No She died of cancer fifty years ago.
Tanks!
When I served, popmpous blowhards like you-know-who got to learn what fun a blanket party was, but for some reason, didn’t ever want another one.
My dad was a land-based officer, but would say in his dorky officer-like way “Shape up or ship out”. Seems some other land-based mil types around here need to learn that one, too.
And that source did NOT support your position. AT ALL. In fact, the posted regulations from the US DOD and the US Code regarding flags shows what you are arguing against is, in fact, correct. You are wrong.
I contend some Euro-weenie forced us to place our flag on the right sleeve.
As anyone who has been part of a multi-service or multi-national force, standardization of insignia and communications is critical to avoid friendly fire. Just as all NATO members use English as their language (yes, we force those same Euro-weenies to speak English when working in joint operations), placing insignia in a common location allows for a fast and accurate confirmation of national identity.
In fact, given that the US DOD rules and the current US Code relating to flying the flag allow the right-forward flag, and such use actually can serve to reduce friendly fire casualties, I'd argue that your position is not just wrong but potentially harmful to our active duty soldiers and Marines.
I'll take DOD rules and US Code and the convenience of identification to save lives of soldiers any day over offending some stubborn FReeper's sensitivity.
Sorry for your loss.
Too dad she passed away before teaching you how to behave properly.
I just think this is very silly of an argument, especially when you know the reasoning behind why the right arm colors position was changed. The US Army Uniform Code states that is the way it is, so, so be it. Civilian codes don’t override that.
