I forgot the Second Amendment, but let’s just say that military-style training is required in High School, along with some military or civilian service. We should use Israel as our role-model here...as we may not have many friends.

It will take someone with real 'nads and a low flake quotient to stand up and lead it, but yeah, I'd be willing to plight my troth to "S" if the Constitution as the founders wrote it can be restored somewhere on the continent. Don't count on Iowa to come along, though-- the state population has suffered 66% lobotomization via the NEA. The niteowl clan is willing to relocate and work for our bread just like past generations.

Honestly I think we are seeing more of the F-word (Fascism) than the S-word (Socialism). But both are equally on display with Obama Soetoro and his left wing legions and radicals.

Or Constitutional rights to Representation are under attack and the demorats are working towards embedding their political power into all aspects of the private sector.

Eveything for the State. Politically enforced Union with the State.

Both Socialism (Marxism) and Fascism (Progressive) are the children ideologies of Dictatorship.

We are where we are now because both ideolgies have manifested here in the United States. First the Progressive movement which started with Woodrow Wilson and then the Marxist sixtes counter-culture revoluion.

Now the two are combining right before our eyes.

Any state that wants to do this is going to run into a few problems, a major one being people who rely on their SS for income.

Assuming that SS payments would just stop, and that residents would no longer have federal taxes withheld from their paychecks, an idea to fix this is to sanction legitimate charities with the ability for donors to set up withholding for whatever amount the donor wishes to donate.

I don’t know about you, but if they stopped taking close to half my pay, I’d be willing to donate a good bit to help folks in the state who needed assistance.

This way, help would go to people who really needed it, and nobody would be forced by the state to participate.

Just a thought...it would cut down on propaganda sob stories anyway.

Don't expect much from Mississippi. I think half or more of the population here in on some form of welfare. This state is addicted to the government tit and the corruption here makes Illinois look as pure as the driven snow.

I think the 'S-word' of the title is SECESSION, not SOCIALISM.

How interesting to contemplate this scenario.

Showing what a lie and a joke SSI are. Logically the government has been telling me that is MY retirement fund, based on my (and my employers) contributions. So what if Wyoming opts out. The Social Security Administration / Trust Fund still has (IMHO) a moral duty to pay back individuals who have paid in what they are owed. If they didn't, a lot of retirees would move to a state still participating in the system, or at least rent post office boxes in Denver.

Agreed on the moral duty considering what they’ve promised, but the charity idea would most likely more than replace the money necessary for people who really needed SS to live on.

Others, who just wanted it because they felt it was owed to them, can get a Denver PO box.

If you’re gonna cut ties, you have to cut them, not quibble over money that was spent long ago.

Understand. There will be rules for immigrants from the North...such as having paid income taxes in their previous country, and of course being fluent in English.

“Any state that wants to do this is going to run into a few problems, a major one being people who rely on their SS for income.”

I’ve done some thinking on this and believe that we should still have a backstop. However, it would be much more difficult to get on the equivalent of Social Security. For example, if you went to the government for money, they would first go to your kids and see if they can get the money from them. If not, then other options might be explored. Finally, the state could step if no one else is available. But it would be welfare.

In the end, most people would take care of their parents, so the parents don’t have to go begging. That’s the way it worked for the first 4900 years of recorded history.

I hope you’re wrong. We really need you guys for control of the river. But I expect you guys to come along, given that you are a red state. And once in...the idea of living off welfare will be over.

But why not have the backstop run privately by a non-profit with money that is donated by willing participants?

Agreed, the bar should be set higher and there should be a definite need. However, I’d really like to see as many things as possible like this privatized and run with money that is given out of the kindness of people’s hearts rather than taken at gunpoint.

I know I’d donate to it.

Personally, I think Obama and his buddies are going to "crash the ambulance", so to speak. When the federal welfare payments stop, the people who are depending on that will be pissed, big time, and some will riot. Others, though, will be smart enough to quickly form strong regional allegiances - if it involves being able to eat on a regular basis.

Agree in principle and definitely worth a try, but the amount of money needed may not allow it to work out. In any case, the money should be channeled through non-profits, so that there can be some accountability as to how it’s spent.
