It has not taken long for hostilities between new Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin and Florida to heat up.
While addressing the Volunteers 2009 recruiting class during an alumni breakfast on Thursday, Kiffin threw down the gauntlet, accusing Gators coach Urban Meyer of a recruiting violation.
The comment resulted in the Southeastern Conference issuing Kiffin a public reprimand.
Coach Kiffin has violated the Southeastern Conference code of ethics, commissioner Mike Slive said. SEC Bylaw 10.5.1 clearly states that coaches and administrators shall refrain from directed public criticism of other member institutions, their staffs or players.
Kiffin charged that Meyer broke a rule in the recruitment of NuKeese Richardson, a wide receiver from Florida who committed to the defending national champion Gators but signed with Tennessee.
Just so you know, when a recruit is on another campus, you cant call him. I love the fact that Urban had to cheat and still didnt get him. (Kiffin said)
Florida quickly responded to the accusation with athletic director Jeremy Foley blasting Kiffin for making it.
His allegations are inappropriate, out of line and, most importantly, totally false, Foley said. The appropriate action at this time in my opinion is for coach Kiffin to make a public apology.
The SEC backed Foley, confirming that the phone call in question did not violate SEC or NCAA recruiting rules.
We expect our coaches to have an understanding and knowledge of conference and NCAA rules, Slive said.

The Vols are always accusing the GATORS of some impropriety or another. No biggie.
Kiffykins, as I've come to know him as, really stepped in it IMHO. He might want to think about saving some of that so called 'swaggah' for the playing field...just an idea.
Lance Thompson did some big talkin' yesterday as well... something about having Memphis wrapped up?? I hear it differently... (WR Keiwone Malone, 2010 Class commit to the Crimson Tide happens to be from Memphis)
Time for more popcorn. :)
I’m going to love it when we hang 70+ points on those hillbillies come September.
Mr. Nu'keese is going to get "reacquainted" with Major Wright on that day.
I agree, Tebow won't need motivation, he'll BE the motivation! I'm pretty sure my guys in Crimson will have much the same motivation!
Welcome to the SEC Kiffykins. :) Roll TIDE ROLL!
In almost all cases I root for the other SEC teams in any inter-conference game. I make an exception for Tennessee.
The SEC West is going to be tough this year. I see Ole Miss and Mississippi State being tough, along with LSU and Bama of course. Arkansas should be better as well, and of course you can’t write off Auburn either. But the Gators should pretty much dominate the East this year.
As far as Tenn goes, nope. Maybe a smidgen of good feeling IF they were the only SEC team going for a national title... but it looks like that's NOT going to be an issue for a while.
All the SEC East teams play each other every year.
UT is playing us in The Swamp this year.
At Gainsville Sept 19. SEC opener for both teams.
To quote my brother, Kiffen reminds him of Obama - they’re both punks out of their league!!!!
We’ve got a columnist down here, Finnebaum, who had a column last week on the absolute insanity of hiring this kid - he started the column off by talking about how most people think Al Davis is a little nuts these days; he ended it by saying that maybe Al Davis isn’t nuts after all - he got rid of this yoyo! Roll Tide
Sweet Di, I will never want to see Awburn do well....just saying!!!! And did we do great on Wednesday or what? Man can Saban recruit!!!! Roll Tide
lol.. I know what you mean.
What an eventful day Wed was! whew, glad its over. The class looks good! Roll TIDE ROLL!
Looks like it's already rubbed off on the Lady Gators. Only their third win ever over the Lady Vols.
Sa-weeet! Thanks. I missed that one.
