President Obama welcomed the rare Republican supporter of his economic stimulus bill today when Vermont Gov. Jim Douglas arrived in the capital to lobby GOP senators to vote for it.
Douglas, who is vice chairman of the National Governors Association, is bucking his party over Obama's massive economic bailout plan.
In a brief photo op with Douglas, Obama said, "What we can't do is let very modest differences get in the way of the overall package moving forward quickly."
Douglas sat next to Obama in the Oval Office and said, "If I were writing it, it might look at little different. But the essence of a recovery package is essential to get the nation's economy moving."
(This is what he wrote in his blog)
Well, Mr. President, thank you for your time today. Thank you for your leadership on matters of great importance to the American people. You were gracious in reaching out to the governors of our country in December before you took office. We had an opportunity at that time to discuss the economic crisis, the fiscal crisis that's confronting most of our states. And we indicated that we needed some assistance from the federal government to stimulate the economy, to create jobs, to help us balance our budgets and preserve essential programs for the American people and avoid the need to raise taxes at the state level.

Nope but seeing that we are the MOST liberal state in the Union and facing a severe budget shortfall thanks to an overwhelming DemoRat legislature, if he wants to avoid cutting jobs, social programs or raising taxes he desperately needs this $$$
And yes he is an F'n RINO!!!
Are there any truly conservative people from New England? By my standards, a New England conservative is still a liberal to me, and always will be.
Of course, I have been accused of being very hard-core about these things.
For a state that likes to squawk about how “independent” they are, they seem to be really dependent on our money.
Someone tell Jim that no, he is not going to earn any more stimulus money by supporting O, just now he has sold his soul to the devil and will spend eternity in liberal hell.
Vermont, That’s no surprise, it’s a little like knowing which way Collins and Snowe will vote.
