While chatting with fellow freepers, I realized I have some expertise (I'm no expert) in the ways of making a household more economical. I preserve foods by canning and freezing, I hunt, plant a garden, dry clothes outside, and so on. I do not pretend to be an expert in any of these endeavors, but I do my best.
I have been told in the past that I mustn't be so thrifty, because it is that unwillingness to spend that hurts our economy. Got it. However, I live this way because I am building and planning for a grand future. The past eight years have been extremely good for me financially, and I'm being forced right now to go back to what I've had to do ten years ago to get by. No problem, been there, done that.
That said, I hope to start this thread to help others and answer questions to the best of my ability and find others with expertise that I do not have.
If you start a list, add me to it please. I and my brother have practiced low budget self-sufficient means for years. He’s more advanced than I, but I’m trying to quickly catch up to become more prepared as I see things headed down the tubes.
Thanks for the ping. Good thread. Thanks to all contributors.
Great info! I have smoked, quit, relapsed, quit, and so on for years. Never more than 10 a day, but when you’ve got 67 cents and no gas in the car, quitting cold turkey usually works. Hee hee
It looks like a good one. I didn’t know it existed, either.
“I live on a sailboat for around $1000.00 per month - I can do better I think.”
I envy you a great deal. Two years ago I wanted to sell everything we have and move to full timing on our boat. I had also wanted to move up to a larger boat. My wife just couldn’t give up our land.
Have some fun for me.....
The move to full time live aboard is quite a shock and not all can do it.
I have been a full time live aboard for 8 years now and still love it.
I am having enough fun for several folks.
Fair winds and following seas to you.
“Fair winds and following seas to you.”
As well to you.
Oh to be young again...
I’ve thought about living on a houseboat, but was discouraged when I checked the prices, even on used ones. A little too high for me.
But I still keep it in mind, maybe one day.
young?
I’m 55 ;-)
Nice boat - living aboard is great isn’t it?
We loved it! All the Dungeness Crab, Salmon and Cod we could eat. We worked at a resort/marina year round but had months off in the off season as requested for long trips up toward Alaska.
LOL 60 feels older. ;>)
Lucky bum.
I can see the San Juan’s from my house. It’s about a 2 1/2 hour run from the launch on my motor cruiser... in good weather and calm water, that is.
Grrrr... My wife is not going to like the mood I’m in when she gets home.
2-1/2 hrs...sounds like the Olympic peninsula or maybe Anacortes or Bellingham.
Yes, Olympic peninsula in PA
Please add me to the list. Thanks.
